Need advice/ input

I just picked up a 1971 911 with a lot of um, character. I have this over at the other forum site as well but am not getting much feedback. I picked it up because it was a good price, now I just don't know what to do with it. It is too nice to be parted, but not nice enough to restore. I am thinking about just making it a fun car to drive but just need a lot of helpful advice. I realize that it is not a show car and that I am ok with. Let me know anything you can because I am new to the 911 and need to learn. It starts and runs but does not have brakes at this time so that and a carb rebuild are first. Someone at some point took out the 911 engine and put in a 912 engine, not sure why. Yes, it is a 911T to start with and not a 912. What would you do? What kind of value would you put it at? Thanks in advance.

value is a tough one. I'd put a ducktail and some big fuchs on it and drive it! while looking for a 911 engine to put in.

ps. if you're keeping the wheels I've got some spacers that would help a lot at filling those flares.

I have some old cookies I could put on but don't the wheels remind you of the ateam van or the General Lee. I think the previous owner made it what he wanted and not the norm. Some very odd combinations.

TRACK CAR! You've already got flares and a hole for an oil cooler. Find the right drivetrain and you're on your way. Of course, that will probably cost you more than the whole car did.

at a guess. 5k to 9k depending on rust. interior looks pretty good.

I might put an entire Carrera front end on it with those brakes and the Al Xbar. Otherwise, just calipers and hoses.

Then do wht ever else you need to drive it safely and well with low power, while you look for a 3.2L or 3L motor to drop in.

What trans does it have? Look at bar on bottom of trans. for ID #.

How about exporting it? Lots of folks in Europe looking now the dollar is weak- and Pcars sell for a lot more over the pond than they do here. Check out 911 & Porsche world for details...

Cheers,

Paul.

I would definitely put on the correct rear bumper, including center panel.

IS the ID # scratched off the bar on the bottom of the trans? There will be scratches & gouges if so.

There are some other ways to ID a trans of that era but none are real easy to do.

Is the case Mg or Al?

Post a pic of what the CV joints look like.

Post a pic of the clutch Bowden tube - the rubber/plastic tube the clutch cable runs in - and the stuff near it, brackets etc.

This is so great. The ugly rims appear to be correct time period of the Dukes of Hazzard show and I think that the rims would be correct for those that try to restore the General Lee. So..... the value of me getting rid of the rims may get me close to a set of fuchs for it. Trying to get around to the obvious stuff first, not counting the engine. Does anyone have a rear spoiler/decklid/whale tail fs? If so please shoot me a price and a pic. Thanks

Whoa its an IROC... wait its a 993... um... no its a 912... er... what is it Boss Hog?

That's one of the more schitzo cars I have seen. Body works looks good from a distance... so I'd say track shell, depending on rust, 1-3k. Engine maybe $1500... tranny ~750 (maybe, I'm not well versed in early tranny values) wheels... well priceless of course!

Small items: The rear wing would be worth $200-300 depending on condition and shipping. I paid ~$200 for my all FG shipped and sold my old rubber lipped one for $200 w/ pick up. 993 rear bumper stuff... maybe $100 +s/h. Interrior and various early bits call it another $1000 all in after you spend all the time to get them off the car.

If you choose to sell the wing I might be needing a spare depending on your location and shipping etc.. PM me if you like.

Best regadrs,

Michael

rear wing

I am actually looking to pick up some sort of wing at this point. Mine has a giant bite taken out of it. It is definately a conglomeration that any purist would get sick at, but as my brother in law said, there is some street kid that things that it is the "coolest" thing he's seen. Like I said, this is fun just learning.

euro, so what is my rear bumper and front lip things supposed to be? I figured someone was trying to do a replica but I think they were trying to do a bunch of replicas at one time?

Well, with all of the issues I think I will send it on it's way to another owner and get one that is a little less involved in the getting it going category.

911

Where is your car that you are considering selling? How are the fender flares? How much are you looking for ($$$)?
Thanks.
