Post Attn: MFI guru.

Hi; I am seriously in need of help. I just bought a rebuilt MFI pump for my 72 911T. I am 150% sure that I have installed the pump correctly (tdc on cyl 4,@FE mark on crank; MFI pulley lines matching behind the pump).

My question is: Is there a way to bleed the system, so that fuel can reach the injectors?
I have turned the engine over like crazy, and nothing!

Jason,

Is the fuel pump on the driver's side of the transaxle humming? There is no need to bleed the system, because of the recirculating nature of the fuel pump. With it pumping one liter of fuel every 30 seconds, it only takes two or three minutes to fill the fuel filter, lines, and galleries of the injection pump ... from a completely dry state!

The fuel pump is working; however, when I turn the engine over with an injection line un-hooked, no fuel comes out of the line.??

I guess, what I am asking is this:
Are the injector lines supposed to be full of fuel at all times, or is it normal to have air in them?

Please reassure me that I didn't spend $1,200 on a Bosch paper-weight!

Yes, the injector lines are supposed to be filled. Have you checked all of the lines to be sure they aren't gummed up or rusted?

And, unless you have pulled off the output line of the fuel pump and tested to see if it puts out 1 quart of gas in less than 30 seconds ... you don't REALLY know that the pump is working. Just because it is humming, don't assume it is putting out 15 psi and 125 liters of gas per hour, per the spec!

Likewise, just as with any of the steel lines that could be rusted, the 'T' and supply line to the filter and injection pump needs to be tested to be sure there are no obstructions to fuel flow! Don't ASSUME anything!

Also, the output from the cold-start solenoid needs to be tested by applying 12 Volts and checking the output into a jar or similar container.

Ha! I've figured it out!

The MFI Pump, just needed to be primed! I tried to turn the engine over for 2 days, and nothing. SO, I took the pump out and placed it on the work bench.

I then hooked an expediant fuel supply (a funnel and some tubing) to the pump's inlet.
While holding the funnel high, I then turned the pump over rapidly by using my old pump belt and a cordless drill. Worked like a charm!!!

Feel free to use this method; your starter will thank you!
