weird smell and a tiny bit warmer than normal?

I searched a little bit and not really sure what to search for honestly. I drove my basically stock 83 cabriolet home tonight (45 minute 70mph drive on interstate). All fine. Got home and had to run back to store (short trip). I noticed on trip that I was runnning just a little bit warmer than normal. It is a little warmer tonight (80), os I pass it off as a "keep an eye on this" threatcon. I got home and checked the oil level, and while I am back there I smell something that smells just like freshly lit charcoal that had lighter fluid dowsed on it. I hope that makes sense to someone. Anyway, I will check plugs and wires, but trying to get a game plan together. Not sure if they are related or not. I seriously thought my neighbor was lighting his grille, it smelled that much like it.

Any other ideas?

Maybe a leaf or something got sucked into the fan and is sitting on the cooling fins?
