Have you installed a Petronix module in your distributor to take the place of your points. pre '74. If so, I would appreciate your feedback.
Thanks ! |

Mark,
You did not mention what model your '69 911 is. If your '69 does not have a CDI-system,I would strongly recommend retrofitting one! Forget about 'Band-Aids' for your distributor! If worn, you can replace the bushings inside, and get many more satisfactory miles out of it. I do hope it isn't a Marelli unit, though! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Hi Warren, I have a Bosch dist. but I've looked for bushings and had no luck finding them. Also my dist. cam lobes are worn, when the dist. is out of the car and I'm adjusting the points there is a differance of 2 thou. on two of the lobes.....Can I buy a dist. shaft?
Regards, Mark |

Hello again Warren, here are some important details concerning my distributor. My car is a T but has a modified engine. It's a 2.0 and I had the heads modified to accept S valves. The head ports were opened and cleaned. The intake manifold ports were opened up to match the intake ports on the heads. I have early S cams. At the time all of this work was done the distributor was modified to match the performace upgrades done to the engine. All of the work was done by Bud Hart of Bud Hart racing.
I just pulled my distributor and here are the numbers, 0 231169 003 JFUD 6 my points sit with the contact's facing to the right. It's always a problem finding these points. Also the inners of my distributor look very differant than a stock one. Also, no vacumm advance, it's been removed. I would like to purchase a new dist. but I've never came across one with these numbers. Thanks, Your help is much appreciated. |

Old Racers Trick..... You can fit a Mallory Dual Point, or Electronic type dist from a Buick 231 V-6 into the early engines, with very minimal machine work near the drive gear. Nice upgrade.

John,
Yes, no difference, Bosch or Marreli ... very easy converstion! 1. Remove condenser from distributor. 2. Mount Bosch CDI-unit or Perma-Tune box, and Bosch 0.221.121.001 or new Perma-Tune coil. 3. Fabricate wiring harness per factory schematic (interconnecting units #5, #6, and #9) at: http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/Electrical/911_electrical_1973_CIS_Part2.jpg ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Hello
The Bosch 169 Series wgere also used in several Mercedes and BMW applicatiobs. I´m not sure but the inline 6 Volvo had it also. camlobe can be repaired ( plasma chrome welding, but expensive ). bearings/bushings are aviable from most industrie suppley some need slightly updrill in the case ( 1 mm ). The best replacement would be the newer 184 generation. As both Marreli are not as good as the Bosch units. The 20,-2,2 112 AX (?) needs a NLA distributor cap and is now replaced with Bosch units and the following 2,4 112 BX ( ? ) parts seem to go the same way. Fiat, Ferrari, Maserati and Citroen used also a Marelli Distributor with a CD unit. For the 206-246 Dinoplex is a Bosch replacment set for 200 £ aviable. This is not a Bosch HKZ but a standard new generation CD unit runing a 9V high performance Coil. This unit was the base unit in the later 924 but had CDi triggering. The 924 unit will not work in high 6 cyl performance applications. You can go to the larger 5 Cly Turbo or the newer 911 units. In germany to most switch then to the lumetition optical pick up sensor. Fits Bosch and Marelli. Grüsse |

Mark,
I've got the original Marelli I replaced with a Bosch years ago (1975 or so). Great shape for $150. If not, try adapting a Pertronix or Crane XR700 pointless conversion kit to the Marelli with the worn out cam lobes. No points = no cam lobes needed. Works on a Bosch, not with a Marelli. Editing error:
Should read, "Works on a Bosch, not SURE with a Marelli." Sherwood |

Can anyone confirm that the Crane unit works on a Marelli?
