Wevo or factory short shift for 915 gearbox
Heh guys,
I have a factory short shift kit in my 915 gearbox but I have heard rave reviews about the Wevo short shift system. A friend of mine is looking to fit one of the two options and we are looking for opinions on which is the prefered system. thanks in advance Johnny B

My 911 had a factory short shift when I bought it. I liked it, but added an aftermarket coupler (I went with the Stomski) which took quite a bit of the remaining slop out. Recently, I switched to the Wevo shifter and I LOVE it. It's a great upgrade. It shortens the throws, but it also adds spring centering and a great reverse lockout. I say go for the Wevo, but go with a Wevo or Stomski coupler as well.

I put a Weltmeister in my '74 with no problems,. I saw I needed a new bushing and replaced that while I as in there! 5th gear can be difficult but probably because its further away and need to lean farther.

I went with the Rennshift assembly, over the Wevo because it is a complete, new shift assembly that bolts right in and is made of cast or machined AL pieces throught. The Wevo is the internal parts to convert your old housing to a new, much better system.
I love my Rennshifter, would not trade it for any other solution...

I love my WEVO. I wouldn't choose anything else.

I have a Weltmeister as well, it's ok, but I wouldn't rave about it. What I wish I'd had the coin to do while the trans was being rebuilt (other than adding an LSD) would be the full gate setup from Wevo. Yeah. That would have been nice.

I had a factory short shift that I'd installed several years ago. Threw it away when I installed the WEVO.

I'd be rooting through your trash if I lived in NY.

Another endorsement for Wevo here. Their short-shift kit is excellent. I recommend also replacing the knuckle at the back of the floor tunnel. Replacing those two items was a night-and-day difference in my car. Before the work, it wouldn't even shift into 5th or reverse at all. Afterwards, it not only shifts into all gears, but is crisp and accurate. Not to mention the reverse lock-out works, which is comforting.
I imagine if you wanted to go whole-hog and get the gate kit too, the car would be as close to perfect as can be imagined. Wevo definitely makes top-notch stuff.
