The ol' Carrera Rat is back in my work stall (carport).
Sent my latest project off on the flatbed an hour ago and it's my turn.
Shaun84Targa sent me some early horn grilles so I could see about tweaking them or making something similar with the TIG welder (that would be the one I don't own ![]() ![]() I'm gonna go out and mixt me up sum bondo! Time for this turkey to get finished up and painted before the weather goes desert on me. I love suggestions. I ignore them, but I still like to hear about what others would do with my car. ![]() |

I like the shape of the lower cutout - better than the "S" style rectangle.
I'd move the horn grills flush w/the turn signals. |

Well, I tried to keep the S cutout the way it is on the steel bumper, but it may have changed a little. I will not actually use the early car horn grilles. They are there only to design what will eventually be fabricated. I can't close that space between them and the lights.

I think it looks pretty cool as-is. Looks kinda modern-retro, Like the new challenger, camaro, mustang.

Even if you can't get them to touch the lights as they should, a small chrome piece is easy to fabricate to close up the gap. Now lets see some diamond plate!

Inner edge of each horn grille should follow the way the hood edges "virtually" lead to the bumper opening.
The horn grilles are a good addition, the turnsignal housings needed company.

Not sure if you are going to paint in the body color, but did this quickly for you to visualize.

I took Dean's colorized version and adjusted the horn grilles to align in the way I think it's esthetically better. Subtle, but it's all about the subtleties.

Well, here's what I decided to do:
![]() I'm re -ontouring the leading surface and adding aluminum bars to the horn openings. I have some original horn grilles sitting on the bench for inspiration. (Don't worry, the ones in the foreground are curved to match the overall shape. I didn't get to the ones on the right yet.) Thanks again to Shaun84Targa for letting me have the originals to work from. ![]() |

whoa! I have been so busy lately, I missed the last installment!
Dang Milt, that is looking better and better everytime I see it. I have a bit of a different suggestion for you for the grilles. I do not know what color the body will eventually be, but I think you should make some grilles out of "R" style mesh of some sort that would match the contours of the leading edge surface. Man, I cannot wait to see this thing when you are done. Awesome! ![]() And you are most definitely correct sir, no F-body in sight...!

I can always count on a nice comment from you, Shane. Thanks.
I did get some R mesh on the 2nd group buy thanks yet again to Shaun84Targa. I planned on putting it behind the bars and in the lower opening. |

likes to left foot brake.

Maybe someone with photoshop skills can improve my attempt.
When you paint it, if the bumper were a different color you could carry the lines of the long hood. ![]() A little more around the turn signals. ![]() Try it with a shot of black primer? Last edited by ted; 05-24-2008 at 07:50 AM.. |
