A tale of 2 Trannys - Same Problem?

Hey,

I have 2 cars with 915 gear boxes.

One is a 1973 914-6 with the wevo shift kit. (915/44)

The other is a 81 SC (alunimium case)

The 915/44 is hard to get into or out of 4 gear, doesnt grind at all. You kinda gotta bump the shifter to get it outta 4. It seems the window for getting it into 4 is narrow.

The SC doesnt what to shift into 2 at high rpms. Low rpms it drops in fine, but if you wind it up, it doesnt want to go in. again no crunching or grinding when it does.

However with both cars Ive noticed that when you pull it back from 1 to second, or 3rd to forth in the case of the 914, the shift pattern is not a straight back pull. With the SC if you move the stick a little to the right, it drops in better. Same with the 914. A little to the right.

Any suggestions on whats going on with either of these trannies would be
appreciated.

Cheers
