I was a flagger for 11 years during those days at Mont Tremblant and a certain Paul Tracy and David Empringham as well as Claude Bourbonnais were racing in that series ...

Let me tell you,it made for some serious action and rumor had it that some of the top teams had another ECU mounted behind the dash so after tech inspection the wiring would be plugged into the "hidden ECU" not sure how much more power it gave but by looking at Goodyear's car lining up the others on the first lap it makes you wonder ... lol

Cheers !

Off line most of the time passing and yet overtaking the field. Can you say big motor? Oh, and he ran the revs higher than most any owner/driver would. The title "take no prisoners" was appropriate.

The run down the hill that follows the uphill section after turn one is truly frightening at speed. There are two distinct lines through that down hill section. One is the easier typical multi-apex line that everyone else is taking, and the other is 180 degrees opposite. (Where they apex you go outside and where they go wide you go inside). All the while the track is falling away from you to the outside and you are scratching for grip. You just hope that at the bottom there is nobody to your left so that you can use the right hand turn at the bottom as a braking zone. (see what I mean at 6:36)

It is the section at 0:48 to 0:58 on the video and again at 2:41 to 2:52 where you can really see him taking the opposing line. Watch the wheel. I think his line through there at that speed on lap two is best described as controlled falling. Wow!

I have the full set of Rothman's races from 1987 and 1988 on video. The races were very entertaining. As were some of the outfits worn by some of the (female) fans.

The cars were supposed to be the same...

One of my good friends owns one of the cars that was raced back then, and later campaigned in Firehawk. It has an interesting background, and I think he is going to sell it.

I think this racing and the NA 944 racing that preceded it set the stage for GT3 cup racing all over the world.

Ohhh man I just watched this!!

For those of you who have never raced in Spec Miata, that video is EXACTLY what it is like if you have to come from the back of the field. It's just I don't recall ever going into psycho bully mode... on purpose. Goodyear was just handing out b*tch slaps all the way through the field.

That.... was awesome!
