Adding Power steering to Pre-89 911 ???

Has anyone added power steering to their pre-89 911. I have a 1987 Carrera with a 3.6L transplant. Although the power steering pump was removed it could easily be put back on. I am middle aged male developing rotator cuff problems and would really appreciated easier steering. With my wide front tires and current high performance suspension setup it has become a real pain to drive slow. I have way too much money into the car to simply get a different car (964 or 993). I am thinking this maybe a fun project. What do you guys think?
Mark

Check with Smart Racing Products. I think they may have an electric PS system for you.

the pump is the easy part. You would need a p/s rack etc. which may not be a bolt on.

No Power Steering Kit at Smart racing

Talked with Mr. Jerry Wood at Smart Racing. The Power steering kit in their catalog is not in production. Apparently due to technically difficulties with suppliers. Jerry agreed that with the larger tires and stiffer suspension power steering would be a good upgrade to the older cars (1987 Carrera). He did not know when the kit would be available for public consumption, maybe never.

Maybe too obvious, but would the rack from a 964 bolt in? Then it's just a matter of running the lines and reinstalling the PS pump.

One of the C2 guys is converting is C2 from hydraulic steering to electric steering for what it is worth.
