How Do You Replace the Tiny Rubber Fuel Line in a 1988 Carrera?

Over the winter I replaced the fuel line that goes across the rear of the motor (closest to the interior) and the one that has a metal center in a kind of "H" shape. I have the small little "expensive" fuel line that I could not reach or get to. It goes on the drivers side of the motor in the corner in the rear. Is there a trick to replacing this without removing the motor?

Thanks
Jack

Are you saying that even though I have the hose the dealer charges $175 labor?

Thanks

I was told the manifold would need to be removed for better access, so when I did my engine drop I changed out ALL my fuel lines.
That little "J" hose is a PITA to get to without an engine drop/lower.
However, if your arms are thin enough and you can stay in a contorted position for a long period of time, you may be able to do it without a drop or manifold removal.

if you can find a picture of the area back there, you can do it with feeling by your fingers. I did it with this method before I first seen any pic, was hard but doable.

$175 for the hose. it would be easy to make one up except for the preformed hose part.

Or, you can send it out for a rebuild for a fraction of the cost (probably $25 max in braided stainless)

Fuel lines sent to Amazon Hose Tampa for rebuild

Mark,

Great pix and I thank you! I just can't reach it. I have a bum back and a very limited use right shoulder.
If my H fuel line started leaking at a crimp and I replaced that .I also replaced the fuel line that goes from one fuel rail to the other. Do you think that I can drive out the summer in my 88 not replacing the tiny line? I have a new one in my trunk I bought from Porsche in case I get stuck on the road.
Should I give it one more try or bring it into Porsche or a small Porsche shop?
I have found that by doing all myself it gets done right. In my limited condition, a job that might take you 5 hours will take me 2 weeks. But it gets done.
I just wish that I could reach it from under the car.

Thanks
Jack

at least get a mirror and flashlight back there for a good look. they tend to get cracks in the inner curved portion.

I would drive any car with leaking fuel. I love to eat BBQ but don't want to be BBQ.
another thought, if manufacture use clamp on one end, can we use clamp on both ends?

If I can't get to it I will speak to a PORSHE mechanic and pay for him to do it for $100. cash. I will remove the top intake for him. If not I will bring it in, as it still is cheaper than replacing an 88 Carrera with only 15k.

Thanks

I was doing research on how to do an engine drop to repair an oil leak and also researching what are the "while you're in there" things I need to do.

Thanks for the great pics MThomas58!!

I find it interesting that it comes with a widely poo-pooed fuel injection clamp (not crimp) from the factory! It is the return line of course, but still ...

FWIW 3 months later, I just dropped my engine, and my front (near pass compartment) fuel line is filled with lovely cracks, but all the others including this short one still appear sound.
