Shaun,
My car was a walk in the park compared to your "obsession"!!! I'm getting a headache over what metal work needs to be done. I am not worthy...... maybe start with the headlight rings and work back!!!! You go boy....

That's a 900SS Ducati! Rock On. Good luck with the project!

Shaun @ Tru6 12-09-2008 06:53 PM

Hey Moe, how's life with a 993? This thing just needs a little buff job. Will be good as new with some Zymol. It's actually going up to Damon's for the welding work on his Celette when he can take it. I'm doing all prep and dressing. We'll see.

Thanks Jeff, it's a truly awesome bike, keeps a smile on my face while the cars are all apart. Was out yesterday...waaaay too cold! but needed a fix.:D What's in your stable of "a couple of Italian motorcycles?"

Moe, you need to change the avitar to the black 993 dude!!!

yel911 12-10-2008 02:26 AM

Hey, this thread isn't about me!!! Ahhhh Ducati's....... anyone got a cigarette???

Shaun @ Tru6 01-03-2009 08:19 AM

Finally got the rotisserie done, easily the best thing I've ever made from scratch. It's solid enough that you can spin the car like the Wheel of Fortune. With the S slated to go to Damon's sometime down the road, I've turned my attention onto the E for a complete restoration. Hoping it will be back on the road in June.

Very cool Shaun. Keep up the good work. It was nice talking with you yesterday.

That is so cool Shaun....

Shaun @ Tru6 03-21-2009 09:56 AM

Been working 90 hour weeks for far too long, first morning I've had to myself in ages. Cleaned out the garage, hoping to really dig into it in a week or so.

a fabulous project!
good luck shaun.

RWebb 03-21-2009 10:34 AM

glad to see the car is back

S&A?? do you get free CRC chemicals?

Shaun @ Tru6 03-22-2009 05:08 AM

thanks for the good words, I've got to get this car back together by the end of June to maintain any shred of sanity I still have left.

Randy, S&A is a parts distributor/runner, I get parts cheap cheap to keep the 4Runner on the road, not much in chemicals.

Carrerax 12-18-2009 07:32 AM

Shaun,
How about some new pictures of the E?

Kroggers 12-18-2009 08:08 AM

Yes, Shaun - where is the update ;)

Shaun @ Tru6 12-18-2009 08:23 AM

I'm sorry, I thought you fellas knew. I sold the E to a good friend, a fellow Pelican. It's long gone, rotisserie on loan. Spring 10 turned out be one of the best for my company, and I wanted to expand my product line for Fall, so with the credit market the way it is, I had to sell the E...and a lot more including stuff here (a fraction of what I need to get up, but really need to move those RSR pistons):

eBay Seller: rs 61: Parts Accessories items on eBay Motors

I've gone from struggling and therefore selling parts to growing and therefore selling parts. Still poor! But I think it will be worth it late in 2010. :)

Bo_66 12-18-2009 11:33 AM

-69S matching numbers!
I know people trade their kindeys for it! bare that in mind when it feels though.
Dont rush it you will get there.

Greatings from Sweden

orange911 12-18-2009 03:01 PM

Shaun,

I can only be thankful that you beat me to the phone for this car. I got as far as getting the email with the pictures, but he failed to post his number in it. By the time I got the number and called, you had already secured a deal. If I remember correctly, he also had a 74/75 US Carrera under a shelter, but the S was in the field. Go figure. He also had some stories of actually driving these cars BITD.

Keep up the great work and I am hoping to see it completed before 2013

You and me both Olin! :) I can't tell you how much I love this car...and I'm one of those who says, "it's just a car." I sold the Carrera and gave him much of the proceeds. Even in this shape, the car was worth more than what I paid for it and didn't feel right since he didn't really know what he had.

I think 2014 is more realistic. All depends on next winter. If I give the body to Damon in NH, I think 2013. if not, 14.

Seeing this post really makes me smile. My '69T started out almost as rusty.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1261193340.jpg

Shaun, I've apparently missed this thread. That is some serious work that you've been doing. Plus Little Travelers. I feel down right lazy compared to you!

Our feature in Boston for the spring got canceled. I'll catch up with you in person soon enough, maybe during pilot season in April/May. Unfortunately, I don't set the time or place.

jsoderbe 12-19-2009 01:59 AM

Hi Shaun, it's great to see that I am not the only one finding joy in bringing these cars back to life. You have to be a true optiminst to get started, and have the end result envisioned. People just focusing on the problems won't ever get a car like that back on the road.

A 911 S will always be worth saving, since there will be less left of them for every year. Keep the good work up and keep us posted!

Thanks,

Johan

Shaun @ Tru6 04-20-2010 09:53 AM

So with the T on the road exactly as I want it now, and a very good possibility of me moving to NY to help accelerate my growing company, I'm thinking it would be best to sell the S.

I could store it for 2+ years, but if someone else can do it justice, it might be a good idea to pass it along.

MJHanna 04-20-2010 10:36 AM

Do you still have the 72 parts car? I'm looking for a rear seat area.

robmog 04-20-2010 12:07 PM

oh no! say it isn't so.
but i know where you're coming from.
3 years into my e, rust repaired, painted, starting final assembly.
and still the $$$ flows like water from a rusty bucket!
enjoy driving the t, i wish i was driving mine on this glorius spring day.

Kroggers 04-20-2010 09:24 PM

Moving to NY???

TR 04-21-2010 01:59 AM

Hey Bob, this is a special car so I'm already vacillating, but if I do move to NY, it won't be for another 2 years that I can even think about the car, and then it'll be a checkbook restoration, which just isn't me. I'm going to talk with Damon Josz in NH and see what we can do with it.

Hi Pål! lot's going on. company growing, lease ending, need to plan the next 50 years of life. Boston pales in comparison in every metric, have great friends here, really the only thing keeping me here.

Shaun @ Tru6 12-22-2012 01:07 PM

it's been a long time, I've just been collecting parts over the last few years, and am finally starting on the car. Going to rebuild the motor over the winter. A fun day today, hoping to get it down to the case tomorrow.

did you stay in boston or move to new york?
what part of new york if you did?

FrenchToast 12-22-2012 09:26 PM

Wow.

How is rust like that possible in such a dry place like TX?

Looks like it parked at 5-past something. Lol.

Looks like the bottom half needs to be cut and replaced. Yikes.

Good luck!

Take care and happy holidays!

The southeast of TX is rainy and humid. And it is a Targa, so it probably had water standing in it year round. Except for West TX, I don't think it is terribly dry anywhere.

I would not start with the Engine, Shaun - that's the easy part on this car.

What you have going for it today vs. 2008 is a steep increase in prices for S longhoods, so you may be able to recover some of your blood sweat and tears.

Keep us posted and Good Luck! :)

George

Rob, your car is stunning, I hope to get to your level. Good to see you, Merry Christmas!

I am unfortunately still in Boston. The move kept getting put off but April of 2013 became my due date. Then this happened and now I don't see the move until end of 2013 or early 14. I want to move to Brooklyn.

Yes, much of the bottom of the car is toast, though the longitudinals look surprisingly good. And oddly enough, the doors still close easily and confidently with that magic "ring." That's one of the things I'm excited about and need to save. You can still get full floor pans through to the front suspension pan. Once that and rockers are done, it will be downhill.

That's exactly why I'm starting with the engine George! :) And I'm going to put it in my 73 for fun. On S prices, yes, they've rebounded very well. I still have to get the COA and more factory info on it but I am pretty sure it's a one-off car, so I expect it to have some real value when it's done, but I also don't see ever selling it. Have had many opportunities over the years but it would become "the car you kick yourself for selling," in any condition. I'm in it for the long haul. Merry Christmas!

Krautfed 12-23-2012 05:12 AM

I know that I'm late to the party, but I can't wait to see this thing returned to it's former glory.
Quite an undertaking. Glad to see that you are on the up-and-up from the wreck.
Those pics are haunting...
