CIS question

I am trying to start a 911 that has been sitting for awhile.

I drained the fuel cell and wanted to purge the lines to the motor.
I disconnected a fuel line at an injector
I lifted the flap/ butterfly inside the air filter and pumped the fuel into a bucket

After a minute or so of purging, fuel began to leak into the air box, is this normal?

Did you leave the other 5 injectors plugged to the intake manifold when you lifted the sensor plate? If you did, then the system was flooded causing the fuel to overflow to the air box in this case. I believe the fuel from the injectors flooded up the intake manifolds when you were draining the fuel cell. This is one scenario I envisioned from your statement. Keep us posted.

Just to add a few things, whenning1, it's always good to be as specific as you can about what you're dealing with. What year is the car and engine you're working on?

Also, I'm not sure how you were conducting your tests, but it's possible that under certain conditions you might have activated the cold start enrichment process. The cold start valve is the mysterious seventh injector located in the back of the airbox. Depending on the model year of the engine, the cold start injector can dump raw fuel directly into the airbox. Or not, because in later CIS-based models the airbox was equipped with a plenum to better distribute the cold start injector's morning shot (and better ward off the mother-of-all-backfire gods).

Take your time and be methodical as you continue to check through things and report back what you learn.

The car is a 1977 with a 2.7

I did leave the other five injectors connected so I believe it may have flooded.

I will make another attempt tomorrow and keep you posted
