Jerry Seinfeld's 911 No. 1
I was in NY yesterday delivering our spring stuff. Got back to the car at 83rd and Riverside and saw this absolutely pristine 911 behind a flatbed. Went over and took some pics. 5 minutes later a gentleman met the flatbed driver to take the car. I introduced myself and praised the car. He tells me it's No. 1, "so it's Jerry Seinfeld's then?", he says it sure is, gets in and speeds away. Wish I had a better camera, more time and 2 hours later in the day for better sun. Enjoy.

WOW! What great timing! The car looks beautiful. What color is that? (I'm color blind) REALLY nice job on the pics, BTW!

Thanks, this was really a rare moment.
Color was close to my old 86 meteor gray, which I thought odd. Hopefully someone will chime in with more info on that. It really didn't look 1964 period correct. The interior was museum quality, as you'd expect.

You may be right. My '86 is Meteor Gray. The headlights don't look "correct" either. I think the correct ones have a tab on the bottom of the headlight ring that the holding bolt goes through, as opposed to the later style that's on the car now.
You had a Meteor Gray '86? Funny, I bought mine about a year and a half ago from a guy in Mass. It had been a West Coast car prior to his ownership.

Where is the snow?!! I thought NY got ten feet of snow recently?
I'm not a big fanof the early cars but that "one" is certainly cool.

I believe the correct name for that color is slate gray on an early car.

I've seen Jerry S. once driving back from the Newburgh area and he passed me in a hopped up Boxster.
I've been driving back and forth from the city and local airports for 30+ years and never seen a car fire as nice as that one. Great work, you could most likely get a job for the NY Post with timing like yours. |

I know that location exactly. Seinfeld's garage is over on 83rd Street.

Jerry Speak Up
Hmmmm. I know you lurk here. Speak up young man, speak up. Caught you in Cleveland here a week or two ago. Your show is still as pristine as your cars.
Great car, just a beauty Jerry.

I am surprised he doesn't have historic plates on the car, thus eliminating the stupid inspection every year. Car is uber clean, thanks for the pics.
PS I almost had Jerry hit my car when he missed the Stop sign at Hershey few years ago ![]()

My first thought was the you had the 911 restored John! (Cramer). Maybe your surname is a cleverly created smoke screen on the internet to hide your true identity.....hmmmm?
David, the headlights are the correct 64-68 early style units. My early '65 912 had the same headlights as well as early 4 screw horn grilles. Note the Euro taillight and front turn lenses ......cool. Shaun, I believe that the early production cars had only three gauges, did you get any interior shots? Ohaha, NYC has not received any snow yet, thank God! John, too bad you did not have a chance to take a load of pics to document a very early car to aid you in the restoration of your 911. Oh BTW, I know John Cramer and you sir are no Jerry Seinfeld. ![]()

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. It is pretty cool to see the car that started it all.
I, too, am surprised the car is registered. With all of the cars he has available to drive, & because of the historical significance of the car, I am surprised it ever sees the street, let alone NYC. Having said that, I am glad to see that it does get driven now & then. It is only right.... Question...I am by no means an expert on early cars, but I was surprised to see that the seats have head-restraints. I know they were not required in 1964. Since I would assume that Jerry restored the car correctly, does that mean the head rests were an option? If so, can I assume they were originally on this car? Thanks.

Doug,
headrests were an option on the early cars. In fact they are the same headrests as 356's. The headrests have two chrome straps that run down the back of the seat and attach with chrome knurl knobs into tappings in the seat back. They were a cool option but are (I found) somewhat cumbersome and uncomfortable.

OK, now that's too stinkin' cool !
Beautiful car. Look in the wheel well behind the front tire, DIRT, beautiful DIRT !!! (though not much, but it IS there!) Reminds me of the thread a while back where Eric McKenna took John D's 959 out for a spin (on a pseudo-rainy day) and brought it back with road-grime splattered all ove the wheel wells. He even posted close-ups of the (light) "carnage". I love it when cars get driven !!!!! I'd like to buy Jerry a beverage of choice just for putting it on the road !!! - I bet the car is licensed/titled either historic or collector, and that's just a donor/show plate to move the car around, either legally or just so-as not to draw attention to the fact there's no plate. Is there any significance to the "Cabiglio" license plate frame on the rear? Why put that on there ?

Who and where is Cabiglio? Was the very 1st Porsche sold at a NY car dealer?
Also, did the name change from 901 to 911 occur during prototype phase? A "901" emblem would have been pretty cool.

I don't think that's a prototype. Isn't it the 1st production 911. The conflict with Pugeot and the x0x numbering scheme had already been settled, I think.

Sam Cabigio of Cabiglio S.P.A. operates out of Signal Hill CA (long Beach) and has sold rare and exquisit cars for many years. You will always see him at Pomana, Ventura, etc.
The car doesn't look slate grey to me. It looks metaliic? And, I thought no 1 was in the Peterson and was red. |

Just a curious question...why would anyone, including Jerry S., drop the 1st 911 ever built off of a flatbead on the streets of NY, and have someone else drive off in it? Isn't that car a museum piece? Doesn't it look like there is salt residue on the streets? What's this car worth? What if a delivery truck gave it a door ding? What business could that car have being dropped of at a random intersection?
Stunning car, nonetheless, JA
