If you post the numbers of both we can tell you if they match for the year of the car. The only way to know for sure if the engine and chassis came together from the factory is to have a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA at a cost of $100 or so.

Tony is correct, but a good rule of thumb is that the engine number should be a few higher than the chassis number (something like 50-200 higher depending on the year).
If it's much different (over 1000, 1500) then a transplant is very likely...and obviously, the years and models have to match. It would be exceedingly rare to find a transplanted engine that was within 50 or 100 of the chassis it was going into, unless someone put piles of time and money into forcing that to happen. Edit: And after reading your post more closely, are you asking if the engine/tranny match the body, or if the tranny matches the engine?

Not sure what you mean. The engine and tranny numbers will be different from each other and the chassis number will be different again. If you don't want to post the numbers, PM me the numbers and I will look in my reference manual. Make sure you identify the car as either a coupe or targa and whether you have carbs ot MFI. Do you know if you have a T, E or S? Engine type (number) will also help verify things. Sporto or manual, 5 sp or 4 sp???
