Bad Idle stabilizer?? Irregular low Idle
My 88 Carrera has an irregular idle at low RPMs, I replaced the idle stabilizer, and with the new one, it is still doing it. Anything else????

Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks around the ICV or elsewhere...

adjust idle position switch... not easy will likely have to pull throttle body/etc. but it just takes some time. You can test the adjustment of the idle switch... see what feeler will go in the throttle stop until the switch changes state using an DVM .. you are looking for about 1 degree I think it is. if you want more on this ask me and I'll find the link.

Thanks guys, a bit more info about my car;
1 It is totaly stock, no chip, test pipe ect, DME is new, hoses & belts, plugs ect are too. 2 It doesn't stall, just goes up & down, & if you pinch the exit hose, it smooths right out, no problems over 2K RPM. TIA,

Byron,
If the idle smooths down when you squeeze the exit hose, and your ICV is new, It points to the idle switch behind the throttle. open and close the throttle with the engine off and if you hear a click from back there, it's working. You can also disconnect the plug from the switch at the right side of the throttle, and connect a meter across the 2 terminals and verify that it opens when the throttle is closed. You can do this more simply by shorting the 2 terminals with the engine idling to see if that gets the ICV to work. I am working on a similar problem and really need another ICV so after all that if you want to sell the old one to me, let me know how much. There is adjustment in the switch position but its not easy to do. Can help if you have to go this route.
