Need some wheel advice from the great wise forum

Currently have a set of 16 x 8 and 16 x 9 fuchs - my track wheels BBS (also 16 x 8 and 16 x 9 are currently on ebay (item 110263698752)

My plan was to get a set of 17" fuchs welded up with a set of 951 6" fuchs (that I currently have) and make my current 16 x 8 and 16 x 9" into my new track wheels.

My delimna is that by now I figured my Hankooks Rs2 would be worn more and that I would have no problem replacing them - well - I have plenty of tread left (not bad for a 200 wear tire)

Oh I have one more issue to throw into the equation - I have a set of 8" 951 fuchs (16") that I picked up for a song and just got refinished by Al Reed - should I sell those? or should I use those on the front - and just get a set of 17 x 9's made up for the rear for right now (and buy a set of 17" Hankooks for the rear? Issues running 16 x 8 fronts and 17 x 9's rear? Same roll diameter...

What would you do?

A friend has a track 930 that was running BBS Motorsport wheels, 16x9 f, 17x12 r. Go for it!

Sell the 951 8's and get a wheel with better fitment. There's a better o/s for an 8 in. front than +23mm. Good o/s is typically +30mm. I have to ask, why make the 16's your track wheels? The 17's would be your better bet because of lower profile and increased spring rate. But that's not to say your idea is flawed. Mike Dayton (IROC) runs 16/17 front/rear on his car. He's done so for years and is apparently quite happy with it. Still, I say go 17's all around when it's time. Just be patient and wait out the wear on your Hankys. The wheel market is always going to be there.

I'm at the point that i'll run 275's at the rear, 17x9.5 and 235 front 17x8 when I pull the trigger for 17's. I've come this far, might as well take the wheel sizes to the max. Seems like the tried and true way to get the rear grip the 911 is dying for back there.

BTW I ran my 23/31 setup on the street for the last few days (sans sway bars while I set up to corner balance it this week) and the ride is completely acceptable with Koni sports at full stiff. Not impressed with Koni damping (seems too soft on compression) and will therefore get my Bilsteins valved by Mirage for comparison. Konis seem they would be nice for stock 19/24, 25 tbars.

Thanks for the feedback - KTL - good to hear about the suspension. The only reason I'm contemplating the 16's for the track is cosmetically they are a little challenged and #2 I have a set of RA'1 that still have tread on em.

Ultimately I'd love two sets of 17's

Damn the 16"s from Al look good though - maybe I can justify that for now -

And to think I give my wife a hard time about how many shoes she has

You know Jeff - I'm always interested in hearing what you have - and I love the look of your wheels. Maybe I can be your florida rep...

Not to steal thread but since it was here I thought I'd ask.

Anyone have a hard-fast rule for how far back the edge of the wheel should be from the edge of the fender? That is, if you were to hang a plum line from the top of the fender and measure back to the wheel lip where should this measurement fall? I'm assuming something around an inch.

As low as possible without rubbing. I know Bill Verburg cut the lips off his car for more clearance. Dial in negative camber )which helps at the track but on the street can make your tire wear fast on the inside.

Note that Pete's car pictured is a widebody with 930 flares and the 16x8 he refers to, and is pictured on the car, is the 911/930 16x8 ET +11mm REAR wheel installed on the front of the car. The 930 16x8 will not fit the front of a narrowbody car.

Jeremy, I looked at the wheels on ebay, very nice. The valve stems look sort of out of place, are you running inner-tubes? The reason I ask, is because the direction and the angle that some of the valve stems are pointing out from the wheel, look almost like tubes are inside the wheels, instead of being run tubeless. It just may be the way the pictures are making them look. Good luck with the auction! Tony.

Thanks Tony - it's just the perspective of the picture - no tubes!

Absolutely agree. Can't wait for Jeff's 17x8, et30 for the front of my car. Then all the Fuchs will be for sale.

I've run the 23/31 combo with Elephant polybronze and custom valved Bilsteins (Tarett connected) on the street and the ride is acceptable up her on our lousy DuPage Cty roads. Would be perfectly fine if I mounted some street tires on the car isntead of the RA1's.
