Cool Engine Oil Test Rig
Friends:
Some of you may have seen this, but those who have not should. It's an engine oiling system test rig segment that's part of the press video for the 2009 911 (or whatever they call them these days) engine introduction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv53RbvgfGc Frank |

That is way cool. I would bet the original dry sump system did not have that type of techonology.

Nice!
Looks like they are going to make sure the 996 oil issues never return. |

Love that sound ... it's worth watching the clip all by itself.

How do the engineers simulate g-force effects on a lab engine? Do they know how much the oil centrifuges in an oil tank/crankcase at various G forces, then tilt the engine an equivalent amount?
I would think a rig that rotates the engine assembly on a centrifuge would do it, but maybe tilting does the same thing. Sherwood |

If the rig is tilted 90 degrees, than 1G lateral is being simulated.
