Urgent Message
I received the following email today, purportedly from one of our well known members...
"Apologies for having to reach out to you like this, but I made a quick trip, to London,United Kingdom and had my bag stolen from me with my passport and credit cards in it. The embassy is willing to help by authorizing me to fly without my passport, I just have to pay for a ticket and settle Hotel bills. Unfortunately, I can't have access to funds without my credit card, I've made contact with my bank but they need more time to come up with a new one. I was thinking of asking you to lend me some quick funds that I can give back as soon as I get in. I really need to be on the next available flight. I can forward you details on how you can get money to me. You can reach me via email or hotel's desk phone, I assumed it was a scam since I did not know the member personally. Anyone receive anything similar? PM me if you did.

Why does this crap waste our time?
Perhaps every legitimate site can abuse/cancil these posts. We can all help. Best, Grady

I didn't get that email through Pelican but I did get the exact same message a few months back and the person used my aunts name and addressed me personally. Some how they got all my aunts email addresses and sent that message out. My aunt does travel quite a bit so my immediate response was to help. As I thought though it seemed odd that she would send me an email like that considering she has children that she could contact and other family members that are closer to her than me that would help. However, not knowing for sure I responded but asked her to answer a question that only our family would know.
I never got a response. |

Yep. Scam. Been around for six months or so now. Comes from "friends" supposedly in cities all over the globe.

Here is a TERRIFIC website
Welcome to the 419 Eater The whole site is about people getting back at scammers...I mean really getting back at them: tricking them into getting tattoes, funny photos, and even extracting money from them...some of these counter scams take years.
