Twin plug install question
Hello,
I'm installing a 964 distributor on my car, and I'm getting ready to install the Andial splitter. The instructions indicate that I need to run a set of 14 gauge wires from the splitter to the coils in the engine compartment. Does anyone who has done this have a suggestion of where/how to route the wires? Any pictures are always a plus :) Thanks guys! Andy |
I installed the splitter under the driver seat then ran the wires under the rear carpet, out through the big hole for the wiring harness then up to the coils. It was pretty straight forward. You may be installing the splitter somewhere else. I have a photo of the engine with distributor but not the coils.

I did the exact same thing as Porsche84. There is a rubber grommet just under the carpet where is meets the floor mat. Just follow the dme cable back.

Thanks for your help there guys. I got that straightened out.
I've run into another question, which I'm sure is elementary to most. The Andial instructions indicate that two wires need to be cut in half and then connected to the splitter unit: the green #4 wire (no problem finding this) and black positive lead from the fuse box. I'm having difficulty identifying the black positive lead as there are multiple black wires in the harness. Is this referring to the smaller fuse box in the engine compartment? I've taken some pictures of where I think I should be looking, and I am hoping one of you kind souls would direct me specifically. I did this almost 3 years ago, as I remember they are looking for a positive black wire which is hot with the key? You may have to check a few with your meter to see which one is only hot with the key.

What is the "Andial spliter" please ?

Here is a picture of a splitter. I've learned a bunch since I bought mine. I think you could accomplish what they've done for a lot less using off the shelf Bosch exciters.

Another quick question. The 964 distributor has a small black plastic housing which looks like it should accept some wire. I don't have any such housing on my Carrera distributor. What gets plugged in here? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1217001305.jpg |
Nothing gets plugged in there. You can remove the pickup inside if you want.

Did some thing get plugged into it in the 964/993?

Do you have the O3 vent modification for your 964 distributor to extend the life of the belt linking the 2 rotors?

Did they machine your heads for 12 or 14mm plugs? If they did 12mm then thats what you use. When I machine heads I only do the 12mm second plug, it leaves more material in the head plus you do not have any clearance problems with the stock head nuts. There is no problem running smaller plugs in the second hole. I use the NGK DCPR6E spark plug which is a 12mm plug.

Craig, the lowers are definitely 14mm, but I can't fit the 13/16" socket into the drilled hole. Do you know of a plug that would have a 14mm thread but fits a smaller socket? Or is there some trick to tightening it as is?

What size is the plug bore in the head? If its a 1" then I think you are going to have a problem, I dont know of a 14mm spark plug that uses a 5/8 socket. My 13/16 plug sockets are 1.050 OD I guess you could turn down a socket to just under an inch but it would be really thin.
Edit: I just looked at the picture of your heads, the holes look larger than 1" is the socket hitting on the cylinder head nut? |
