Dash top question while we're on the subject?

I have a very nice blue dash top on my '85 Carrera. It's far superior to what's underneath but it looks kinda cheap like plastic which, of course, it is. I'm wondering if anyone has found a paint or covering (for the cap) that looks better, less shiny maybe more textured? I know I'm not going to get an instant leather look killer dash but someone has to have found something that looks better!
Now that said I'm not talented enough (I don't think) to cover a dash cap with vinyl either and I've read those threads. I'm thinking a black textured covering of some kind?

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Scott

Take the cap off and give it a coat of the SEM brand color coat spray dye in Satin Black (15243) and then reinstall it.

It results in a nice satin finish like the factory pieces.

Scott,

I've used that spray dye on sunvisors, rear seat pads, the seat belt reel covers on the inner quarter panels with great success. I think it'll work great on the dash knee pads.

You can get the SEM product at your automotive paint store.
