Here is my new/old project.....Lilly
Hi guys,
I have been lurking here for a little while. I am normally over at Rennlist talking 993 stuff but I think that I am going to be spending more time here. I am now starting the restoration of my very first car. It is a 1970 911t with 59k original miles. I put it away in a garage in 1982 when I needed to rebuild the 901 gearbox. As I was doing the gearbox I decided to start replacing the inner and outter rockers and anter the 901 was done I let the car sit until i could get back to it. Well, that has taken 25 years but I have gone and brought it to my house and ready to start a full restoration. The car was originally burgundy but we had it repainted in 1978 to guards red. It has an almost perfect black interior that I have all packed away. Im going to make it all original with the exception of a set of Fuchs since I cant stand the steel rims and hubcaps. It is a T with AC and S gages. The cool thing is that it is the first car that I ever drove! Also, the engine and trans are original numbers matching. Im not rebuilding it to resell. I just want to make sure that when my dauighters are old enough, it can be the very first car that they ever drive. I already have a blue 993 that my girls have named Sally (from Cars...like Im sure there are already a ton of blue "Sallys" also) but I asked them to name this car and they thought long and hard and came up with "Lilly". So from now on, she is lilly. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and Lilly since I will be on here frequently asking stupid questions!!! With that said, she is going to need a rear floor pan for some minor rust as well as the pan where the pedals go. I am going to be ordering these parts asap and Im also looking for a pass side fender and some other stuff. Im going to say in advance, thanks for all the help! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Great story! I look forward to the journey. Please take lots of pictures for us all. Will you paint it the original Burgundy? The doors and rear quarter panels look nice and straight.

It will be the original burgundy. The quarters are good and so is the hood, decklid and the doors had some minor rust damage that I fixed 25 years ago but I cant remember how bad it was. I am going to dip the doors, hood, decklid, bumpers etc just to get a good start. what i cant decide is weather or not to strip it all thw way down or not. I would really rather not pull the harness etc. Im going to get all the panels together and get the car to my body guy and have all the ruts fixed properly. I think at that point it will be obvious if I need to totally strip it or not.

Not to go off topic but I know Mike Barton . It's been a number of years since I've seen him . I think I'm thinking of the right Mike .
Didn't his father pass when Mike was young ? I heard he also started a company for after-maket parts for the new mini ( BMW ) , this sound correct ? He also finished the car that he was working on with his father when he passed . Also say hello to A. J. Hawk and his family , if memory serves me , they ( - A J ) still live there . Good to see progress to Lilly . Keep us up-dated with story and pics as she comes back from a long sleep . SxS Tell Mike when you see him a guy from COMODE ( central Ohio owners + drivers + enthusiasts ) says hello . It's now just called central Ohio mini owners , but being a smart-azz Istill like comode . I've known guys like Dick Smith , Kevin Jensen , Pete Strobable for around 30 years . Jonathan

That is correct about Mike. His father was into mini's when Mke was small. He died when Mike was small and left Mike his old Mini and a ton of parts. I remember that it was always Mikes goal to finish his Dads car. I think he finally did a few years ago. I remember that he build a really cool yellow one that was basically a hot rod. I dont think that was the one his dad left him though. I worked with Mike in the late 80's and have seen him every few years since then. He is really a good guy!

Here is a Lilly update:
I picked her up on Tuesday and have been able to get the rear suspension all off as well as start some assembly. Luckily I had all the front suspension parts already powdercoated, plated etc so it has gone fairly quickly. I now have the new mastery cyl, steering rack, front control arms, brakes etc all mounted. I was also able to make all new brake lines etc. I havent had a chance to mess with the fuel pump and lines yet though. I did start on the headliner. I ordered it from Tony and keep going out and stretching it a few times a day. Im hoping to start gluing it in a week or so. It isnt even close as of right now. Anyway, just a quick update. I will follow up with more pictures as I go. Again, thanks for all the help and if someone sees something that I am doing wrong please let me know! Thanks, Mark ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I just couldnt do it! It still bothers me that I did a color change but ultimately I built it for my wife and I and this is exactly what we wanted
The motor may also not be exactly stock..

Forgot to mention, new floors, doors, fenders, front suspension pan, battery boxes, inner and outer rockers, both door jams, jack supports etc. This project got way bigger than originally intended once we started getting into the rust. Anyway, it was all replaced with steel correctly and will hopefully be good for another 40 years!
