Welt Rear Sway

Hey, I picked up the below rear 19mm sway bar for a great price but it appears to be too short for my 72 911 targa. It measures 35" approx from end to end. I was under the impression that there is only one rear sway from Weltmeister for 69-89 cars. Could this be for a 914? Does anyone have a quick measurement of their rear weltmeister bar on their 911? Thanks a ton for any help.

Thanks man for the measurement. It is definitely too short. Bummer. Anyone need one of these?

Does anyone have any idea what application this short bar might be for? Maybe an earlier early 911 or a 914?

Could it be a front bar? I dont think so because you could not get it through the hole. Maybe they made on that mounts underneath?

It sure looks like a rear bar to me, just is about 3 inches shorter than the stock one that I have and doesn't look like I could get it into the mounts. Just my unfortunate luck I guess but I would like to figure out what it applys to so maybe someone else can benefit from it.

Is this one that uses the U-bolts to attach to the torsion bar tube? Do the end links attach to the ball protrusions on the trailing arm or does it use the spring plate special eccentric bolt?

My guess is that these drop links are supposed to attach to the spring plate with the special eccentric bolt. Does someone else have a measurement of their sway bar from end to end just to add support that this one is too short. I already got one confirmation but another would also be helpful.

I have a Weltmeister rear 22 mm bar with a bit of road rash on one end and one missing end link. I would sell it cheap . I am now using a late Carrera rear and the adjustable through body Welt bar on the front only. johnsjmc@sympatico.ca

Hey, thanks for the offer. I was trying to hook up 19mm bars for the front and back. I have yet to determine what I did get for the back here but it appears to be a miss.

You could probably get away with the 22 rear bar set on soft and a front 19 set on firm. If still too stiff at the rear it would reduce the built in understeer . John

Thanks, guess I am no good on the 35" long bar that I have if two people with 2 diffent year 911s have 39" bars and the one on my car now (stock 15mm) is probably also 39. I appreciate everyone's help. I guess I can add this to the list of parts that I have purchased that don't fit. Joe

Built in understeer on an early 911? That would be for parking, yes?

IMHO, 22mm is too big for a stock suspension. if you use a 22mm rear bar, the front bar should at least be the same dimension. 19 front and 22 rear will only induce terminal oversteer at a lower vehicle speed. Might be helpful on an autocross course.

The upper drop link hardware looks unfamiliar for a 911. Maybe a related product like 914. Identify the vehicle that fits the bar and sell to an owner. Find a 19mm rear 911 bar and use the existing hardware or sell everything and start all over again.

Currently my rear sway is off my car as the left mount has given up on life. My car rides much smoother without it but gets a bit froggy in turns, I really notice a huge difference in weight shift and steering in general but the loose ride is better for the street.

I have purchased the Wevo mounts and will be having them mounted soon, maybe tomorrow or the next day....or maybe the day after that.

Anywho, I also recently put shorter tires on my car I had 225-60-15's on the back and I changed them to 225-50-15's and I have noticed that the change in the geometry has given my front tires much more grip when accelerating in tight corners at speed, previously I could keep the car going straight with the wheels pointed left now it actually goes left as directed.

Sherwood, agreed. Thanks for everyone's input. Haven't figured out it's application but if I do then maybe I can sell it to someone that needs it for a great price. Joe
