Wheel HP of a stock 3.2

Just wondering what is the stock wheel hp of a 3.2. I have a stock 3.0 that gets about 180hp at the wheel. I am considering putting a stock 3.2 on the the car but I don't know what a stock 3.2 dyno's at the wheel??? I know this is not exact and there are lots of different dyno results. Just curious what you have experienced.

I am no expert on dyno numbers, but I believe 180 HP at the wheels would calculate out to approximately 207 at the flywheel.

Is there a need to change out your 3.0? It would appear it is healthy and making good HP.

Yes I am in a race class that 200 - 210 may be optimum but may be not.

You might want to find a RoW 3.2 as it had 231hp stock. Accounting for drivetrain loss of 15%, you get 197whp. A little tweaking with the exhaust and ecu and you'll have a "stock" 3.2 with what you're looking for.

Will your class allow you to swap the CIS for carbs? A set of 46mm PMOs will get you into that range.

My car is stock. Came from Canada. Not ROW as far as I know.

Gets 201/202 at the wheels, a touch less if temps are hot.

some dyno sheets in this thread from my 87. At some point the 3.2L went from 207 to 217 hp. I think it was just a chip change. Maybe when they went from 24 pin to 28? Anyway, the 87 was rated at 217hp and dyno #'s were close to that factoring in 15% loss to the wheels.

More kudos for Steve W and dyno sheets

My stock '88 put down 204hp @ 6k rpm when I had her on the dyno a few weeks ago.

Yes I can do anything to the motor without restriction but I have to add weight with added hp. 14.5 pounds per hp gain, so I don't want to over shoot. 195 to 200 at the wheel is probably as far as I should practically go.

I have read many threads about putting carbs on a CIS motor and it seemed as though the cost was almost high as an engine swap after you sell your old motor. With the 3.2 you get Motronic fuel injection which would be nice.

You can't really compare dyno's some are more optimistic than others.

Right, but I am just looking at ball park numbers to get a feel where the 3.2 comes in. It may be too much power for what I'm trying to do.

I did just look at the Bitz Racing info and this might be my best approach at this point. It looks like I could Dyno tune and pretty much get the advantage of EFI and the control of a range of performance. I had not even considered this possibility. I need to research this option further.

One thing to consider is that your 3.0 has larger rod bolts. The 3.2's used smaller rod bolts that should be replaced with racing rod bolts if you spin the motor beyond the stock limiter. I replaced mine even though I'm not spinning the motor much higher. I just wanted the added protection. If I were you, I would just throw some carbs on that 3.0 and go racing. I race with 3.2's and 3.0's, and the 3.0's are out front.

My stock 3.2 with megasquirt, ssi's, and M&K 2 in/out showed 241 at the wheels on our dyno-jet. That was with some optimizing of the spark and fuel tables but still in the safe range. We also did a coast down and showed right at 12% drivetrain loss.

My Carrera 3.2 w chip and cat bypass has gotten from 211 to 217 rwhp depending on the day and run.

Some ideas.

For a lighter rear end, a 2.7-2.9 built on a mag case, high compression, w E - C2 cams.

A 3.0 with small ports, cam timed for tq, higher compression, 1.5" long tube headers, carbs or mfi.

A 3.2 w the cams re- timed for torque, a custom chip, and 1.5" long tube headers might be tuned to get the most out of the low end and not over shot things.

A 3.6 with a restrictor plate for a big fat low end.

That is definitely a proven set up and probably the smartest thing for my needs.
