Blaupunkt Bluetooth USB 2.0 Interface
I bought the Blaupunkt Bluetooth interface USB 2.0 http://www.blaupunkt.com/us/7607545500_main.asp to deal with the new California hands free law. I was planning on using the hands free feature with telephone through the stereo speakers.
I downloaded the phone compatibility and the head unit compatibility lists. My stereo is a Seattle MP74, a pretty nice state of the art unit, and I have a Motorola W490 telephone. Well, based on the compatibility lists, I bought a Motorola Krzr K1 telephone and installed the Bluetooth Interface. IT DOES NOT WORK! I returned the Krzr K1, and bought a Motorola Razr V3, it works until you shut the radio off, then it loses the bluetooth link and can't reacquire unless you go back through the "bonding" process all over again. No one is going to do that. I tried a 4th phone before I decided that the Blaupunkt Bluetooth thing just does not work. It must not be compatible with US spec equipment. So I am back to the dumb ear thing. I hate it, and I can only hear out of one ear when I drive. I feel like "Vince" from Sham-Wow!, and I am not a happy camper. So save your money and don't buy the Blaupunkt Bluetooth thing. Last edited by rusnak; 07-18-2008 at 11:20 PM.. |

it will re aquire if you reboot your phone when you turn on the radio. I like mine. I use a Samsung a727 and my stereo is a Hamburg MP57.

So, you're basically saying that you "turn your phone off and on again" right?
I tried that. No go for me. The only way it will re-acquire is if I go back through the bonding process. That's not the way Bluetooth is supposed to work. Wouldn't you agree that you're supposed to turn the key and go? Phone and stereo are supposed to work automatically each time. We paid some big money for our systems, I know I did, and I want it to work. I'm going to return the Motorola, but the Bluetooth is not returnable, sadly. I tore the package up trying to open it. I have another problem too...I can't get music to play on the USB interface. So basically nothing about the Blaupunkt Bluetooth works...at all! Best regards, Vince with Sham Wow |

I usually only have to do that if the radio goes on and off again like when you are working on the caR that requires the ignition on and off. but I only had to bond mine one other time besides initial setup. Is it something with Bluetooth security? My USB works pretty good I.E. as advertised. The only problem is the manual for the stereo is thicker than the manual for the car it is in. Good luck.

BTW. My Bluetooth is internal to the stereo. maybe there is a problem with your external?

Of course you have to turn your ignition off. Your answers are confusing. I was thinking about buying a head unit that has Bluetooth already installed. Specifically I was looking at the Bremen, the top of the line unit, since it has more in common with my Seattle MP74. I also have three external amps, and I need 3 pre-amp outputs. I also like the calibration mic and the fact that the unit increases its own volume to compensate for road noise. But the add-on Bluetooth troubles are not exactly confidence inspiring. You said also that you have a Samsung 727. Which cell phone company do you use? Also, that phone is not on the compatibility list for the add-on Bluetooth. I'm thinking that the add-on Bluetooth is not the way to go, unfortunately. |

Here's a picture of the Seattle. I like it because it matches the original interior fairly well too. The Los Angeles is silver, and does not match as well.

I was saying ignition on-off-on off-on like looking for a power wire or something. Sorry for the confusion. A head unit is probably the way to go, like I said, I like mine.

I love how you mounted the GPS. How did you run the antenna or does it pick up signal from there?

Crustychief, thanks for the pointers, esp the cell phone provider. I will delve into this further, and have to talk to some tech support people to make sure I don't waste my money next time on a head unit.
84Porsche, my GPS has no external antenna. Honestly one is not really needed. It gets excellent coverage in everything but parking garages and tunnels. I glued the disc to the bottom of the ash tray. You can buy these handy discs at Magellangps.com separately, and they also work well for the satellite radios. |

Don't bother with those hands-free solutions...
They are all crap..! Have you ever been on the other end of the conversation? There is a ...L O N G... lag! ![]() -Makes a normal conversation impossible! Just pull over at the nearest stop, and call them up the normal way, or just talk as you drive, as I do... -NOT recomended.... ![]() If you want a system that really works, you'll have to pay insane amounts, and I still haven't seen it! |

Yes Otto, I would normally agree. But using a phone while driving was just made against the law here in California, USA. Dumb law, right?

I know this isn't gonna be a popular responce but but I just use a corded hands free thingie in the 911. I clip the mike close to my collar. any other method just shuts off because of noise. And I am not going to make my 911 quiet. I also have the same issues in my truck. I actually prefer not to talk while I am driving. I find that is the simplest solution.
