Question to sell or not to sell

Hey everyone,

Lol, I'm not sure if I'm actually asking a question or not... just thought I'd throw this out there. I've been toying with the idea of parting with my RSA for a while.

The cons are:

1. I love the car
2. I won't own a porsche... at least for some time period.

The more I thought about it though, I A. can't really afford to track it anymore, and I have a lot more fun tracking other cars anyway. Don't get me wrong it's incredible, especially considering how close to a GT3RSs times I could get it at Roebling, but I'm almost kind of jaded to it as a track toy. Which is what it is, I mean it's a blast to drive it on the street, which unfortunately I'm doing constantly these days, but it's a PITA too. I mean the last time I was on track I was getting paid to coach in and drive a GT3RS; the RSA kinda pales in comparison. Lol, the last time I had a ton of fun in it was when Richard, the start finish guy at Roebling, asked me to take out 2 new track workers and 1 old hand who'd never ridden in a race car and scare them.

I don't know, I could really use the money and I could probably end up with a faster track toy for like half the price. And I'm sure I'll end up with a 911 again at some point. Hell, I'd almost really rather have another old '67 or something just to have a Porsche around and then have something crazy for the track.

Anyway, lol, it's 3:30am and at the moment it seems like a good idea to get the input of some fellow pelicans, so.... let me have them.

Thanks,

We all have regrets, what's one more.

THe other thing to consider is whether you can sell and be happy with the price. I have put the sign out on my 80 SC several times over the last 6 months and what folks are willing to pay for a 911 is insulting....

Andrew,

If you do not have to sell, but are having thoughts - you can do what so many Porsche folks have done since the beginning of time. In your local region's newsletter, put the car up for sale with a price you would love to receive for the car. (Which normally is more than the car is worth.) You have now appeased your conscious because the car is up for sale, and should you get your price, you are ahead of the game.

Good luck and see you at Roebling. Did I hear spec Miata in your future?

I do not think it is the best time to sell unless you have an exceptional car or a buyer lined up.

Andrew,

Yeah I've been wrestling with this one as well. I could/should use the money for investment purposes but I put her on the block for a very fair price and heard crickets. The market is soft and I will not give her away so I'm probably going to give it one more stab and just hold on to her. It took me a year and a half to find this car and I've put a lot of sweat into an already well maintained machine. It's of more value to me unless someone in the know realizes what is there.
So I'll let the market place tell me what to do.

Good luck,

Scott

Trust me I know... Actually, the most I've seen an RSA sell for recently was like $52,500. Ironically it sold for that much because it had like 12k miles on it and I would never consider buying a 964 that had never been driven unless I was putting it in a museum. If you started driving it, it'd start leaking like a sieve.

I'd always halfway joked the only way I'd sell mine was if someone just wrote me a check for $50k for it. I thought about it though and I have the lowest number I'd ever sell it for in my head, especially with all of it's mods, 3 set of wheels, spare original parts, etc. included. If someone was willing to pay $43.5k for it. I'd probably sell it today, but seriously I wouldn't take a penny less for the car.

So, eh... I don't know.

Lol, well I flip flop on a daily basis, but I think I made my decision.

I thought about it and prior to needing to drive the car this year, it just sat at my shop until it was time to go to the track. My priorities have changed so much since I bought the car. It really kind of came into focus when one of my clients asked me to co-drive one of his race cars in an endurance race with him and I realized I had let all my licences lapse this year. All I really do with the car is track it, and don't get me wrong I have a ***** eating grin passing GT3 RSs in a '93 RSA, but... at Roebling the car's only going to ever turn a 1:20.1 as much as I'd love to break 1:20 I don't think it's ever going to happen in that car. I bought it before I was even a PCA instructor let alone the driving I've been doing recently.

I'd rather sell it, spend less than half the money to get a formula car that'll turn 1:08s at Roebling and then, worst case, run just 3 national races a year and keep my SCCA Pro license which theoretically everyone should honor especially for co-driving in an enduro. Actually my friend Jon and I figured between the two of us if we ran 3 weekends a year, we could both keep our pro licenses and only spend $2500 a piece/year to race. Between us we can rebuild the whole car if we have to, and he's got the tow vehicle and trailer, I'd have the car... works out pretty well.

Get a decent beater, keep a bunch of money in the bank, and at some point I probably will try to do another '67 912 because i'm not sure that not owning a Porsche will ever be in the cards for me. Possibly with a WRX motor It's just for me it's not a status symbol, or even a fun street car anymore. All I worry about is warming it up, every idiot in a jeep wrangler (i swear to god) tries to race me at a traffic light... Eh, I don't know.

Lol, not sure if I've talked myself into it or am trying to get you guys to talk me out of it, but I think it's a plan.

Andrew, Sounds like you do have a plan and maybe even a future project already in mind.

I must say I wish I had an extra 50K...
