Strange noise when shifting
Hi, last drive there was a strange noise when shifting from first to second gear, and when driving away from a stanstill. It went like "cloink cloink"! Like a cable beeing softly banged on an empty box...
The last thing I did on the car was to change both shock-absorbers at the back. The right shock was quite rigid, probably the oil within was more like tar... The swap was uncomplicated and the car handled a lot better. The rubber bushings at the top of the shocks were like made of steel, hand and glaced. New rubber made for quieter ride over bumps. The old bushings had some "play" and it was possible to hear a slight "i-a" noise when riding over speed bumps. But for the new sound... The noise seems to me to be clutch related, could it be a matter of adjustment? Or has the play in the old rubber bushings given way to some other problems? I find that strange, though. Reverse can sometimes be a pain to engage but otherwise the car shifts great. The car is a 1975 2.7S. Thanks for ideas, Ole |

there is a common issue with clutch interferring with the acelerator linkage down at the padels, sounds like this may be what your are hearing, the problem generally shows itself in the clutch itself acting different than normal, not releasing properly, irregular clutch pedal feel or perhaps a chattering.

there are several articles and threads on it, i simply dont know how to link them to you, just i cant post pictures of my car or projects, not comp. savvy!! it is the actual clutch cable itselk interferring with the accelerator linkage, you remove carpeting in the footwell, then remove the floorboard, way up front, very very tight working conditions at this point, visually inspect the operation of the clutch cable you will probable see where it is comming in contact with the other linkage, you must redirect the cable at this point, be carefull as you must keep the bow in the cable for proper operation, i'm sure others can direct you to threads that may spell it out better for you, been there done that, best of luck
