LM-1 logging, what am I missing here?
With the LM-1 pieces, do I really need to spend $450 for parts just to be able to log a/f and rpm? If so, that's nuts. I can run on a dyno for a third of that and get the same readings. Or am I missing something? (quite possible since it's a stormy Monday)

You can log with the LM-1, no extras needed.

Well, depending on what accessories you got with your LM-1 you might have to spend some money to get it to read/log RPM. The standard LM-1 only comes with the O2-sensor and the cables to power it.
For RPM you need the RPM converter and depending on what signal you plan to use an inductive clamp. The RPM converter is something like 99$ and the clamp another 25$. BTW: There is a newer version of the LM-1 called LM-2 out that fetches RPM readings off the OBD-II port if you car has one. Interesting for newer cars but not really useful for pre-993 cars. Ingo

If I read their website correctly, I need the LM-1+RPM to log afr vs rpm, for $429. I just need to log this one time to send the detail to Steve Wong so he can correct a flat spot in the software he sent me. But if I add the 429 to the cost of the software, I'm into $1,000 for this software. And then hope it's marginally better than the current software that I've been running with my headers and exhaust.
I'm open to suggestions on alternative ways to go.

Time for someone to gerry-rig an iPhone/iTouch connectors to a O2 sensor and create a down loadable program that will do the same thing for 1/2 the cost.

Hmmm, I guess I stand corrected. My DynoJet AFR meter measures both out of the box.

You can buy it and then re-sell it - should be able to recover most of the costs. Or try and buy used......

A LM-1 needs the rpm converter or a Aux Box 3 to be able to log rpm. Also, the LM-1 is now discontinued and NLA except from one or two vendors. The replacement, the LM-2 can log AFR and RPM with no additional accessories. The purpose of the LM-1 or 2 is for unlimited use for tuning and diagnostics purposes, not just at WOT but at idle and part throttle. It's not the best return on investment if you only want to perform 2-3 WOT runs, but if you're going to do this more than 2-3 times, dyno runs are going to cost you more.

Less brakes, more gas!

Buy it, use it, resell it to me for 1/2 price!!
I've been watching Innovate products for over a year hoping to score a deal... yeah that's not going to happen... so you should be able to recoup almost all your costs. Best regards, Michael
