Two questions: #1) transmission leak, #2) empty rubber gromet for relay

Hello,

Questions #1,

This is regarding my 87-930 4-speed transmission. The transmission is leaking from the square plate in the photo below. Can I drain the transmission, remove the plate and seal and reinstall with everything in the car?

I am afraid that this plate is holding something in the trans so when I remove it something will fly out. I'm trying to avoid a catastrophe.

Question #2,

I have a loose/empty rubber relay grommet in the engine bay by the cdi box and panel that holds the over-boost/yellow relay and others. It's the one in the middle of the photo and has 3 holes with metal fitting, so I'm guessing that the relay would also have 3 pegs unlike most which have 5 or so.

Any thoughts? You help is appreciated.

Bryan

bryan, i can help with the tranny. i had the same leak. drain tranny, take off the plate, clean, new gasket and put it back on. the only tricky part is prying the plate off. it feels scary, but in reality it was no big deal. they even put tabs to pry on. there is a fork bolted to the other side of that plate. it is the fulcrum for the shift rod inside. i took the time to make sure the 10mm nuts were tight. i also put a skim coat of hondabond on the gasket as a extra insurance policy. hondabond is a gasket sealer from Honda. i have ZERO leaks. my leak was worse than yours.

the relay, would be a guess, but think that one is for the rear window defrost???

Vash

Thanks for the help. Do you also have a 930-4-speed or is this plate the same on 915's?

Lastly, can you clarify regarding what is bolted to the plate from the inside? Does the plate only lower a little but and then I have to remove what is attached from the inside?

Thanks again for the help.

Bryan

Vash, thanks for the help on the trans.

Anyone out there have any idea on the rubber relay grommet in the trunk?

Thx,

IIRC, it is not for a relay. It is the CIS test connection port. It is used to check the basic operation of the CIS FI system. From the looks of it, your electrical panal has been removed at one time. That plug should be in the hole that is just above it on the vertical face with the wires running down the back side of the panel.

Fast Corners

Fast Corners,

I guess I did not realize that you could check the CIS system electrically. Thanks for the location info. I will make sure it gets back in that spot.

Also, is there anything that is suppose to be there in the meantime or is it only a hook up for the CIS. I guess I have never noticed that before.

Lastly, what does that tool look like and what does it tell you about the CIS system? I have never heard anyone talk about it.

Thanks again,
Bryan
