Too good to be true?

Actually the ad doesn't specifically say it's RUNNING...87 911 97,XXXK miles in Hattiesburg, MS.

If it's running, it definitely looks too good to be true for $4500!

Could be a typo however there is some fishy about the way the add is worded.

Fishy? It may have so full of toxic Katrina water that no fish could have survived.

Or not. A carfax can tell you if it was ever registered in or near NoLa.

Hattiesburg, MS is not exactly a prime place to sell a 911. It is almost perfectly equi-distant from every possible market - Baton Rouge, Mobile, NoLa, Jackson & Birmingham or Mont-gummy. Every mid-sized city. That would explain the low price & reduces the chance that a dealer is trying to unload a Katrina Kar (oddly enough it is the "anniversary" of Katrina right now.

If I lived near there I'd sure check it out tho. But very thoroughly.

Just the parts are worth at least double that, even if the engine case has a hole in it.

I saw a similar ad locally here on craigslist. I emailed and it was a scam. The price included shipping, the car was not able to be seen but would have a 3 day grace period to return the car/cash if it wasn't correctly represented. RIGHT! I think the email was the same angela person...husband died, pristine car, yada yada yada.

I've seen many ads like this in my travels. Most of the time they are real and the people don't really know the value of the car. Heck, a 1987 BMW 3-Series is worth less than $4500, so people who don't check the Internet completely may leave money on the table...

My Son did some of his computer magic, and was able to actually to locate the owner that had it previously on eBay. Apparently the high bidder never paid for it, and he is still around Yakima, Wa. So this one is BIG TIME SCAM!!! Be very careful of sending any pertinent info to the "new seller" Tony.

I was able to find an old ad linked to a free Carfax which provides this VIN for the car:

Yes! And that "everything seams to work" - not exactly a ringing endorsement!

Thumbs down Too Good To Be True

Look at the email I just received about this.

Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my car. I am selling it at this price
($4,500) because I just finished the divorce with my husband. When the divorce finished, the car was registered under my name. Now as a woman I don't need it. This car is in excellent working condition, no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions and comes with a clear title.
From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure pay, I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services. We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account for $20,000. The final price that I want for this car is $4,500 including shipping and handling.
If you are interested in buying it please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through eBay.
I will wait your answer(if you are interested to buy) very soon.
Thank you,

"Now as a woman I don't need it." ??????????????????

I don't even know what to say to that! Takes all kinds, I guess.

Wow. She got the Porsche in the divorce - and she's practically giving it away. Sounds like some potential nastiness there. Wonder what hubby's side of the story is?

Well if she is for real, this could very well be a great deal for somebody, even if the car is a roller, by what yall have said about parts value, it'd be quite a deal. Hell, with shipping from Washington to Alabama included, I might have to see if I can scratch up $4500. We got any Pelicans out there to go give it a bit of a PPI?

Hey let's all pitch in and make it our Pelican Club Car :-)

When talking to the actual owner that had on ebay, but the buyer flaked out, the car is still in WA. and he was not a happy camper finding out his car was being used as a spam scam.

No. This is a dude sitting in an internet cafe in Nigeria. Textbook case. The Nigerian accent leaps off the screen, even in the first listing.

These scams continue to happen because of gullible people like you, who even start to dream it is real.
