MSD Wiring

I am installing an MSD 6AL in my 79 SC with MSD coil. Is there any problem with running the 12v hot line required to run to the MSD from an unused 12v hot connector on the fuse block/panel in the engine bay? This would be in the alternative to running the 12v source from the starter terminal and is a much easier hook-up. Thoughts? Thanks

I did it that way.
I researched here on Pelican first and found others had done it that way as well.

MSD6AL spec is 1A/1000 RPM. I would expect that a 8 to 10A circuit would do the trick for most applications. If I remember correctly the 3 position fuse block in the engine bay has 1, 8-10A fuse and two 25A fuses. I don't recall which circuit(s) is switched, but it should work OK load wise.

Regards,

al

PS: I ran mine to the starter though.........works good.

I did it to the starter with the msd installed on the brace between the shock mounts. I't a very short run and very easy. Works great with my carbs too. Barry did the dizzy and the idle just purrs. Throttle response is lightning quick.

Hooked my MSD up to one of the 25 amp fuse connections in the engine bay. Works fine and you have a fuse incase of a short.

i have an 82 sc with a 6al and blaster coil and would suggest running the wire to the starter as i did. also when u hook the pickup wires if they are reversed the car will run badly backfiring and sputtering so if this happens reverse the pick up wires i chased this for a long time.
