Binding and clunk sound in reverse
My '86 Targa has started making a strange cluck sound and you can feel a small binding for about the first 5 feet when I go in reverse. After that backing up it's fine, but it scares me. Tranny seems fine otherwise for the forward gears.
Got any clues? Thanks, ~Steve |

Ideally, have someone else back your car while you listen carefully for the location of the sound. To get you started:
Check all calipers and pads for tightness/integrety. Check the emergency brake shoes. Check CV joints for binding/noise. Check transmission mounts.

I think I noticed a similar noise a while back in reverse, ended up finding a torn inboard cv boot a while later. Ended up replacing the axles, as they were probably overdue. Good luck, post what you find.
