Oh no thats silly I would definately sell but it would be heartbreaking to see my beautiful truck destroyed like that.

Gas is only going to get more expensive. Take the money and run.

911 tweaks 04-19-2009 04:47 AM

+1... gas is now just over $2.05 here in Massachusetts and they say that for the summer season when people travel...read when sellers of gas can jack the price... the national average will be 2.25 to 2.50/gal...
Put the 10k in the bank or some of it into the porsche

gsmith660 04-19-2009 05:41 AM

+1 if I get it sold then it will finance the 911 getting finished, after I posted the first one I had another guy come by and look it over and said that he is waiting on an insurance settlement on a house fire and he would be back to see if the truck was still available at 12000.

Yeah, and those prices I assume are for regular!

Oh, and did I miss something this go-round about the hike in gas prices..? Umm, lets see.. its because of Katrina, the Iraq war, summer blend vs. winter blend, oil company didn't get bail-out money, what? Someone help us all understand the reason!

gsmith660: Know how you feel but hey.. once you get the money it's his truck.. besides, you won't see it get torn-up unless you're going off-road with him!! :D

gsmith660 04-20-2009 10:18 AM

Well he didn't come back with the money so I guess it was all moot, but it is not entirely true about not seeing it tore up I sold a 79 trans am to this guy for his kid and over the next couple years watched a beautiful well maintained car go to a POS and finally he rolled it trying to drift it out on a runway ala fast and furious. This truck will probably be bought by someone locally so I would see its demise also but I got no problem with that after I get the cash.

Just read through this thread.. Excellent work your doing! What exactly is that material you got from MMC for the front of the spoiler?

Thanks for the complement, I read that the price of middle east oil is at a low but the price of gas is driven by the price of west texas sweet crude and that is up due to the fact that they cant get it to a refiner. The mat. is conveyor belting I need an idea for material to use to finish the top edge that you will be able to see.

gsmith660 04-20-2009 11:05 AM

I should have posted more pics I have over 500 total but I didn't want to choke up Waynes server so I just posted the highlights. Besides some of these pics shown the way to not do something as they documented my welding inexperience quite well.

gsmith660 05-05-2009 06:46 PM

Well I tried to move this thread to rennelist but they only let me post 1.7 meg of pics so I am saddened as the discussion over there had promise that ideas could be bantered and suggestions would be offered and I don't think slams would have been made. I have been lurking around the last few days and some of the posts I have read sadden me this forum has gone to pot and I guess I have been part of the problem with some of my posts. I dont know if I will post anymore or just let this wither and die I guess time will tell but the off topic folks call it whining I call just plain rudeness. See ya all for now.

I for one, have been following this thread with tons of interest and admiration. Please dont let any negativity get you down, as unfortunately this kind of thing goes with the territory on boards, esp as they get bigger and with more and more keyboard mechanics and Bull $hitters rather than guys like yourself who actually do stuff, take pix while u are doing it, and then graciously take the time to post.

If i may make a suggestion, since you emphasis is primarily on turboing your 2.7, why not start a new thread over on the turbo board? All of the guys over there are extremely helpful and overwhelmingly postive with no-BS and no trolls (yet)

Keep up the good work bro and ask some or your questions over on the 930 board, esp when u start into tuning.

gsmith660 05-05-2009 08:32 PM

Thanks I have followed some of your work also and I take your comments as a real complement I have several threads over on the turbo forum I spent alot of time and effort on this thread and it just doesn't seem to get any creative discussion going like all the backdate threads do I feel this forum has gotten to the point that if you are not backdating a late car to an early car then not many people really give a $hit dont get me wrong the folks that have posted have been great.

GS, mine was also "near death": a 78 SC that had almost no interior, a "rattle can" rebuild of the engine and a lot of suspicious unfinished bodywork, mismatched 15 and 16" Fuchs as well as questionable wiring.

Basically, the only thing it had going for it is it ran and had a clear title. I could have restored it into a nice SC, but I really do love the look of an early car so I went that route. I've taught myself to weld on this car as well as learned a bit about 911's in general. Mine has been a 3 year project and I can still see at least one more year before I can call it "done".

I can appreciate the work you've put in and wait anxiously for the finished productSmileWavy

gsmith660 05-06-2009 08:48 AM

Thanks I followed your work as well fantastic I only had a clear title on the 76 that is why it is what it is I do know the mileage is correct the actual mileage was 8000 and change on the sc title and the speedo I got from Aase was within 15 miles of that so thats what went on the 76 title I dont know if I will post the finish here or not I am just so dicouraged by all the veiled flamimg going on Mia911 got hammered on his thread kinda like the space heater comment about my intercooler and that just makes me not want to post much anymore that intercooler might not look like the 3500 dollar intercoolers some have but in 92 it cost me 1500 and had flow numbers that would compete with these now. The responses on rennlist are starting to trickle in and are all positive so we will see.

GS, I don't know if 78P930 was being critical of anything. I assumed that he was saying that in addition to the needed brackets, you need a space heater in your garage (see thermometer!). I've been watching your build with great interest. I have a real soft spot for those who invests the time and money in a vehicle which will not be as (monetarily) valuable upon completion as some may be. I suppose I'm one of those people too. I'm working on a flood victim SC. I don't know what other negative comment are being directed your way, but there are those who find it very easy to criticize through their keyboards. As far as a lack of feedback, there may just be a number of current big-budget projects which are simply too easy for some to follow (including me). I'm still eagerly awaiting your next instalment.

Keep up the great work :)

stay strong there GS !!!!!! You know what you want to do here and if you have any questions, post them and don't let the riff raft get you down.
What you are doing to "YOUR" car is totally up to you and "F" everyone else, if you know what I mean. Really... it is your car and do what you wish. Just discard the crap posts, keep a stiff upper lip and march on!!
Honestly here... I envy you in that you are staring at a point where there is no wrong thing to do to "YOUR" car as you said, you saved this car from the scrap yard. Have at it and have a blast!!!!

"I SAY THANK YOU FOR SAVING A PORSCHE CAR FROM THE TIN CAN WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!"

Stay strong... keep the dream alive... ask q's maybe on the turbo forum for more educated ~ specific answers & info on turbo subjects. Just like going to the body forum on how or what to do on a rust or body altering question.
Keep your thread going or I will be saddened as I want to see how your journey goes and most importantly how the car winds up when you start to drive it!

Notice I didn't say when you finish or end the fixing & mods as they will never end because you like the porsche car ownership and working on.
Good luck and keep on truckin' man!!
Bob

Ah yes the temp it was cold out there and heat is in the future but right now the car. Those comments are not all at me and frankly they mostly come from posters with < 300 posts and/or post mostly on off topic and/or dont have anything personal posted on this forum so they cant be picked at nor do they have anything invested in this forum. I just wanted to foster creative thought not get slammed for offering help or ideas. I think the moderators need to get involved in this forum and stop it before it gets out of hand.

Thanks 911tweaks we will see what happens.

I love these kind of threads were you can closely follow body and engine builds in great detail. This forum and these threads have been my inspiration and drive to take on my own - 964 conversion. I was also considering EFI conversion and am follwoing this thread closely on how your engine turns out. Just hope you continue to document all steps as you have been!!!

A big update

Alot has happened since last post. :D The motor is running with Tbitz EFI, the motor fired right up and smoked like a ***** from all that oil I had been putting in the intake to keep it freed up and lubed and I got it up to normal temp. and when I finally figured out how to use autotune it is at the static tuning point at +/- 2-3% of the ideal and the AFR's are running from 13.2 to 15 so all is a go to finish plumbing the turbo in I am waiting on the final 90 to come in for that. I found out that I had a bad altenator so I am lucky and had a spare and will be looking into a high cap. alt. upgrade. Anyway some pics of the progress and the first drive should be sat. after the glass guys get done putting the windshield in.
