Also off the beaten trail, I won my dispute with GM on the trailblazer repair and got the 1500 back for the head. I also had my 76 Blazer up on a lot trying to sell it and some punk or punks put it up on blocks and stole the wheels and tires off of it with the cops just a block away so now I have dick cepek wheels and dunlops on the way to replace them this time with wheel locks and the funny thing is they didn't touch any of the neat toys inside the truck and the wheels were already showing wear from the 4 years of driving them in those harsh winters in Illinois so they didn't get much but lots of people are looking for them so if they show up on someones truck they are toast.

jerry take it for a drive yet? oh and don't forget my offer on wheels

gsmith660 06-26-2009 05:32 AM

No tomorrow the guys come to put in the windshield and I am still waiting on the axle from Ok. for. since the spring washer behind the cv joint is NLA I bought a used axle to get the washer and a couple spare cv joint as Gary said they looked like they had recently been replaced. first drive will probably be sun. to go gas it up. The static tune was great it has great throttle response and the turbo spins up nicely. Cant wait to drive it and after making sure all is good then I will use dynolicous on my iphone to get an idea of power output. Pm me about the wheels I am intrested, did you see where some low life stole the wheels and tires off my Blazer the new ones come today I will post a look of the new look with the dick cepek's. I want to line up all 3 for a pic to post on the truck thread. It was smoking but yesterday when I brought it up to normal temp the smoking has stopped we will see if it comes back after a run on the street.

It's a turbo now for real!!!

Well got the last piece and hooked up the plumbing for the turbo!! :D

And I got the wheels and tires today for the Blazer so it can go in the car show next week and hopefully get it sold. What do you think of the new wheels they are Dick cepek DC-1's

Tires are way too small. You've got enough room under there for some 33" IROKs!

gsmith660 06-26-2009 03:33 PM

Those are 33's. You dont like? I didn't want to put anything bigger than 33 because I didn't want to do the structureal mod to go bigger.

gsmith660 06-26-2009 03:35 PM

Ben, do you have a base map for a turbo that I can use to tune this 2.7 with settings for boost in the VE table?

Naw man, I didn't say I didn't like them, just that you've got space for much bigger tires. Wheels look great though.

I don't know what others have done but I vented my oil tank breather (circled in red) through a catch can to avoid oil contamination of the intake charge which will increase detonation risk due to reduction of effective octane rating.

I will look into that I could do a catch can inline.

jerry I have a bse map for a 3.0 turbo on my other computer email me at ben@mkexhaust.com and I will send it to you. As for the blazer you are asking the wrong guy trucks are not my thing but I think it looks good

oh and the IC looks very nice

gsmith660 06-27-2009 05:16 AM

Thanks ben, I wish I hadn't had to do the wheel thing but oh well. Now on to tuning Paul Dornberg has been gracious enough to turn me on to megasuirt-extra which gives me a 12x12 map and he has a base map for a 2.7 also using this firmware so I think I am set when he sends me that. Foe anyone thinking of doing the Bitz EFI upgrade his support network he has set up is the best I have ever seen Tony usually has the answer but if he doesn't then someone does. Again Ben thanks for the offer I still may take you up on that and thank for the complement on the Intercooler setup. First drive could be today. I still have to make up that bracket for the I/C but all in good time.

Hello,
Awesome build, engine compartment looks better than factory. One question, any thought as to creating a cold air intake? Cooling the intake will help the intercooler efficiency, as well as the final charge temp.
Just a thought.
Hola
eric

Hi Eric, that intake will be pretty cool I think as it is right below the louvers on the whale tail and has unobstructed air flow, but I am open to suggestions to make it better.

gsmith660 06-27-2009 10:43 AM

Well the windshield is in and I have all the software from Paul to use the 12x12 EFI map sojust about all is in place for the first drive, oh and I have a mod I did a long time ago and just now see it as I changed the park position for the wiper to the pass. side. Now she needs a bath!

Its not complete yet and it really turned heads and got a lot of thumbs up.

gsmith660 06-30-2009 05:13 AM

Boy I am on a big learning curve here on the tuning going to take it out to get a log file to tune the ve table and dail it in some.

bento 06-30-2009 05:40 PM

Great build. Looking forward to seeing it all dialed in perfect.

Just in time for some convertible weather too.

gsmith660 07-02-2009 07:04 AM

Driving impression, I took it out for a 15-20 min. drive to tune the ve table. All I can say about that is WOW upon WOW I got it out on the highway and opened it up and it went right up to the target 4 psi boost and the car jumped literally as for the structural mods I did this is no flexy flyer it is very solid and grounded in the curves. I do have some smoking from the turbo after boost and hard acceleration and dissapates quickly after I let off so I suspect my rebuilt sat on the shelf for 20+ years turbo is not my long term solution so I will be looking for a replacement in the long term. Now I will pull some intake piping to see is I have any oil contamination in the intake. I have loaded a new ve table analyzed from that drive and I can tell the motor already runs better. More to come
