Power window binds at front edge needs manual assistance
Hi I have 78 SC Targa.
Power windows. There are no issues with the switch or motor. -- but......... The drivers side window has begun to hang up. It lowers without any problem at all, but gets stuck on the way up. I have to lift the front edge of the window in order for it to raise. Again the motor is strong and fast once I free it of the bind. Is this a classic regulator problem, or could something else be in play? Thanks in advance for the help. JRegards- erry

You'll probably have to pull the door panel off to get a better look at the operation. Lots of tracks and scissos in their that could probably use a new coating of grease. The window channel felts may need replacing as well, definitely inspect.... you can lightly lubricate the front side channel with something and see if that helps the situation... hit it with a shot of WD-40 and see what happens.

Hi Troy-
The panel is off but I cant see whats going on toward the front edge of window. When I "help it up", the window definitely tilts from front to back. In otherwords there is some significant play there.

with the window rolled all the way down look in the door and make sure that the metal groove that actually holds the glass isn't compromised by cracks or rust. if the glass isn't square and secure in that piece it can deflect and bind in the track when you try to raise the glass.

I would clean up the old grease and hit the window track ( the piece that the window sits on) with some white lithium grease. The old stuff is probably drying out and not letting the window slide the way it should.

So this doesn't seem like a regulator problem??
I will see if I can get a glimpse of the front groove. I can't understand why the window can be manipulated from front to back though. I thought this was going to be a no brainer for this forum.

Amazing that the window ever worked. I have been chasing a few threads related to a "window regulator pivot pin".
So I go to check it out. The pin appears to be there, and intact, but there is no spiral wound spring. It is just not there. P.O.s - ya just gotta love em.
