Well I started down that road to fun and games (read hell) with a Rennspeed yellowbird front and rear bumper upgrade. Removal of the old parts went fine (wow, that rear bumper is heavy!!) and installed for a trial fit. The parts fit pretty good with the exception of the front signal lamps. total crap, had to cut out the fiberglass mounting tabs and will have to glass in new mounts. But overall not too bad. the first time I put the bumpers in place, my heart skipped several beats! just keep working it and it will work. Now it's fit and finish time. Also installing a 964 motorized spoiler and debating on adding the 3rd cyclops stop light or going with the inside window lamp. The front bumper will have air ducts glassed in and a front mounted oil cooler added. here are some pics of the fitted bumpers

Looks great! Now just get yourself a 964 smilie to trim it out and tie the front end together!

Yes, I used the 964 smilie on my wife's white 3.2 with the same front end. Fits perfectly!

Might I suggest a thinner trim treatment. You already deleted so much rubber, why add more. Here is the TRE/Axiom solution. I like a lot, and its pretty simple. The 964 smile may be more aerodynamic, but this looks sweet. If I do say so myself. Looking good!

I have a similar solution to Jim's (done by PO) and also think it looks better than the 964 smile. I won't be able to post a pic for a couple of days, but will do so asap.

I'll second the notion of not installing the "cyclops" third brake light. As for the one mounted on the inside of the upper part of the rear window, I'd strongly suggest you don't do that either. The placement blocks all of what you wnat to see to the rear, when on the highway. It's very annoying.
Otherwise, carry on. JR Last edited by javadog; 09-18-2008 at 12:24 PM.. |
