Carrera Graphics Install Early Car. Need Help.
Hi all,
According to this image, the Carrera graphics start about 50mm up from the bottom of the rocker cover. But, on the early cars, I have no rocker cover. Does anyone have the correct measurement for me? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1221952827.jpg |
I measured mine 2 inches from the bottom of the door.
Brian...pictures?
I looked at the R, RS, RSR book and estimated it from some reference point (cant remember) in the pictures. The bottom of the decal roughly lines up with the wheel centers.

http://www.porscheforum.nl/viewtopic.php?p=230316#230316 http://www.porscheforum.nl/album_pic.php?pic_id=19586 use some tape,5 cm wide at the bottom from the door http://www.porscheforum.nl/album_pic.php?pic_id=19596 please wait 24 hours before removing the backing foil...............good luck :D |
I thought that the top of the decal stripe should be on the same line as a line that runs from the tops of the front & rear bumpers of a longhood car....imagine a line strectching from the fender/bumper seam in the rear going to the fender/bumper seam in the front....the decal top matches with this line......however, the stripe on an impact bumper car is lower.
ok...so maybe 2" from the bottom of the door is just for short hoods. Anyone have longhood pics or techniques?
Check out my website.....I have installation instructions.
Hey Mike...it's not about the install as much as the placement location. Thanks for posting those though....very helpful.
I also have 3-4 pics on the website that shows the typical location.....
Well, it's hard to tell mm from pics. :) Thanks though.
If you have a longhood, envision a one inch border on the bumpers....like the chrome strip or on an RS a vinyl strip.....
Center THAT strip in the middle of the Carrera Bars on each end. THAT is the proper height. |
mike...is the "strip" in the center of the bumpers?
Man, it sure would be helpful if someone had a pic of an early car with carrera graphics. :) |
Thanks Mike...that's helpful. I see what you're talking about now.
Also...I need the "Carrera RSR" graphic file for the ducktail. Can I buy that file from you so I can get it to match my vinyl? |
RS or RSR? I should be able to cut that....black doesn't have many different shades....
If I was using black I would have gotten the graphics from you in the first place. :)
What color ARE you using?
It's a grey a couple of shades from the color of my car. Subtle.
Ah.....mind if I ask how much you paid and who was the vendor?
The pics above are my personal daily driver. It's a fake longhood on an 83 tub with a 3.6....the graphics are metallic charcoal grey that I made for a client. I liked it so much I installed it on my ride as well. I have another RS set in that color if anyone is interested.... |
Local company, and it was $59 for the two carreras, (though she gave me 3)
Not bad....I charge $50 and I pay shipping. $80 gets the whole RS kit....
Well, I emailed you months ago to get me samples of grey vinyl, but you said your printer guy was in jail or something. :)
Ah..he got out....then is back in again....out on the 1st....
So, can I snag that file off of you? You can PM me if you like and we can take this offlist.
When he gets back out.....after the first.
Mike, do you have a direct side shot of your car?
Or can you simply measure how far up it is from the bottom of the door? |
Ok...I've got the passenger side done. I'd like some opinions though. I think it's an optical illusion, but it looks like it's tilting down a bit. The decal is exactly level with the door...47mm from the bottom in the front and the rear.
What do you guys think of the placement? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131440.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131452.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131462.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131473.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131498.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131486.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131521.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131540.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222131552.jpg |
I like the Healey in the garage. 100-6 or 3000??
Oh, and I like the subtle contrasting color script too. Almost did the inverse on my car. Light silver on GP White, but have changed direction. |
I think it looks a little too high because the 50mm distance appears to be for cars that have the lower trim strip. With the lower trim strip gone, IMO I'd place the stripe a little lower. Like on Mike's car (which also has the lower strip removed).
I think you're right...I need to redo them, and I'll put them a little lower. Glad I had an extra. :)
Michael... Your car looks fantastic, I love the color!
id go a little lower, other than that it looks great
Here's mine if it helps (the angle might not be the best). I agree, the pics have the stripe a bit high. I love the car and the contrast, though.

Hi folks.
It's been a while since I had a chance to update. I've been insanely busy lately, and haven't had a chance to get to the baby for a while. A few weeks ago, I installed a "Carrera" decal on my passenger side. I waited a while to see what it was going to look like, and how my alignment of the decal was. It didn't look good, so I decided to do it over again today. It was VERY difficult to get it to look correct with these wide flares. There were hours of measuring, aligning, comparing, etc... Anyway, I made a plumb line from bumper to bumper out of some fly fishing line, and got a good preliminary alignment: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377138.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377157.jpg Fast forward an hour later: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377187.jpg And the result. sorry for the grainy shots...my cam ran out of juice, so I had to use my iPhone. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377227.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377247.jpg The passenger side took me a couple more hours to get right, even with the numbers I had from the driver's side. There's definitely truth in the statement that these cars aren't necessarily symmetrical. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377317.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377333.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224377350.jpg The reason my front grills aren't installed is that I've decided to have them sandblasted and rechromed to fix some of the pitting in them. That's all for now...I'm hoping to take it for a little rip tomorrow. Hope this early car graphics install helps someone. |

The page from the manual you scanned is very clear. It's what I used to do mine as well. Read #1. It doesn't say 50mm from the rocker cover, it says measure from the "door lower edge". Love the color scheme! ;) Here's mine measureing 50mm from the bottom of the door. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224378305.jpg |
I used 2" blue painters tape as my "level" starting at the bottom of the door. Makes the PITA process a lot easier.

I started there, but the consensus was that it was too high for a longhood. So I lowered it.
