Rattling noise-transmission going bad?

I have a strange noise which I sounds just like a loose heat shield. I crawled under the car and pulled on the heat shield for the cat and it does not budge. In fact the bolts holding it are rusted solid.

If you have ever heard a loose heat--it sounds exactly like that. As I accelerate from a standstill I hear it through all gears and rpm ranges.

I am going to change the gear oil this weekend and look for any excessive metal shavings or debris.

Any ideas on the cause? I hope I am not looking at a transmission rebuild on my G50.

This noise came on quickly? You sure it's not the frikin' chain rattling?

Gear oil changeout can't hurt...is the shifting still smooth?

Best,

Doyle

Below about 2000 rpm I think it's normal for the G50's to have gear rattle.

At all RPMs sounds a bit odd to me.

Here you go 88 G50,

I was going to do this to my 85 915 but I realized it does not apply to my baby.

Maybe this could be your issue:

1. Rubber O Ring
2. Insulation Hose 700MM
or
3. Rubber Washer

Here is the thread I found: Is a chattering sound normal starting out in 1st gear? '88 Carrera
