What else have you done besides the chip? Cat bypass, muffler... I installed SW's chip fabspeed cat bypass the fabspeed cup air box cover and a K&N filter. The difference in response is tremendous.

Have fun with it!

Fabspeed CBP goes on tomorrow (assuming I can get the cat off--I am going to start working the nuts & bolts now).

I will probably replace the muffler, and I'm looking into the airbox/filter options.

Took my wife out for a quick drive today, and she was like "H*** S***!", just based on the chip.

I knew there was a reason I didn't buy an SC....

I just realized this may have offended SC owners, which was not my intention. I love the SC's as well, but one of the deciding factors--beyond the fact that the nicest car I found was a 3.2--was tune-ability...which I'm realizing, for me, was a good consideration.

I just installed some 1.75" headers and the stock "header" chip from Steve a few weeks ago. I went from ~17 mpg to at least 20. And with the extra few hundred RPM before redline, the car absolutely RIPS. The 2nd-3rd gearing difference isn't such a problem anymore.

really? Just a chip on all stock and she (passenger) was like "H*** S***!"??? Are you sure you didn't drive harder than you usually do?

Use a Cup-style airbox. No convincing evidence out there that anything else is better (per Bruce Anderson).

IMO the best you can do without engine mods is headers and a sport muffler, and a SW chip for this set-up of course.

You can leave the chip in for smog in CA. I just passed with it in.

I pushed the car a little harder, but it WANTED to be pushed harder...and it definitely pulls noticeably harder below 4K than before.

Is there a particular airbox I should buy? Fabspeed? Other?

Thanks--

Now Modify your air-box

I got a euro Porsche 911 and fitted SW 87 EUR/RON95 chip and also did the air-box modification recommend by SW.

I bought a used air-box so I didn't have to butcher my OEM and cut the face off and replaced the stock filter with BMC Filter.

Very Happy with this, best bang for the bucks.

Porsche 911 Carrera 1985 3.2 Euro spec.
SW 87 EUR/RON95 Performance Chip
Air-Box Mod.

Next project: B&B Race Muffler (which I have already purchased), B&B Headers W/Heat with 1.625 OD Primaries. Anybody want to buy a radio!

PS, If want more info on the air-box mod, mail me.

I hear you. Got it in my stock 85 euro too. A lot better drivability at low speed and better, more even, punch in the mid-high range.

At least from the seat of the pants feeling + placebo effect.

performance chip

How would one tell if the 86 carrera has a performance chip already instlled, say by the previous owner. Is this actually like a memory card of some sort, where is it located, would there be specific markings on it to identify if its stock or a replacement performance chip.

Both the chips and Steve are top shelf.

I just cut the stock cover and left the perimeter. Stock Mahle filter exposed. Makes it louder; not sure if it really does anything in a 3.2.
