Crazy Druck Press Needle

My oil pressure needle has recently gone nuts. At idle, and occasionally at speed it'll show me the right pressure (1-1.5 bar for every 1k rpm) but in general it just pegs to the top, and flicks around all crazy like.

Idle will show 1-1.5 bar. When I touch the gas pedal, the needle will fly to the top and flick around the top area on the gauge. Randomly will show the right pressure at speeds, say 4-4.5 bar at 3-3.5k, but usually stays at the top. I'm pretty sure my oil pressure is not pegged, which leads me to believe faulty measuring or electrics.

I'm guessing it's a bad ground. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks.

Make sure the cable is attached to the sender and that it is not broken. Green/red wire in upper right corner of pic. Mine broke and as you can see, I am using an alligator clip.

Ignore the red circle.

bad ground or bad sending unit. here are some threads that might help:

oil pressure gauge deflects full scale...why?
Question on replacing the oil pressure sender

One of those has the quick test to see if it's your ground or sender.

Thanks guys. I'll make sure the wire has a solid connection, and if so I'll jump it to ground per the first post. Will report back.

I just had this happen to me.. ended up being the connector to the pressure unit was sliding off. I just reshaped the connector using some pliers and then put it back on. If it isn't that, it could be the pressure sender unit or the wiring itself, like myamoto1 suggested.
