Stop Lamps on 911 SC

Hey guys, bought my 1981 911 SC about 2 months ago and I'm loving it! The other day a truck rolled up next to me and pointed out that I didn't have any brake lights!

All other systems seem fine - when lights are on, rear lights up, reverse if fine, so I don't think it's the bulb.

Could be stoplamp switch or blown fuse yes? Is there anything else i could be? And maybe most embarrassing - which fuse is for the stoplamps? And what does a blown one look like?

Thanks for help/suggestions

The bulbs for the rear/brake lights are dual filament. Either the filament for the brake light is burnt or someome replaced the bulbs with a single filament bulb.

A common issue w/ SC/Carrera brake lights is the stop light switch. W/ time it becomes less responsive to line pressure so that the brake lights are triggered at higher and higher pressures,

2 cures
new swiches
add a mechanical switch, some use the cruise control switch

Same thing happened to me. I had to replace the dual fitment bulbs. Try that first.

Someone told me the same thing about my Carrrera. Tested in the garage and the brake lights work fine. At a stop light I was just not applying enough pressure to the brake pedal. Apparently there is a minimum required pressure to engage the light- it is not an electric switch.

Yes it is. .... an electric switch on the master cylinder. If only maximum pedal pressure closes the switch, you have an issue.

Someone have the odds on both brake light filiments burning out simultaneously? IMHO, it's pretty high.

Read Bill V's post. That's probably the source of the malfunction.

Most likely it is the arcing within the Brake Light Switch that melted the internals which caused a non-contact of the terminals activating the Brakes Lights.

I have a solution for you, PM me
