Hot twins! (RSRs)

Howdy -
While at the Miller PCA club race last weekend, I think I found my new favorite cars. They're twins, built by the same guy and owned by a family. I talked to them for a while and they were super nice. They're replicas that started life as a '75 911 and a '73 911 I think - something like that. They were extremely well done and spotless.

I also found this newer factory RSR pitted w/someone else I know - which allowed me to crawl over it w/my camera.

Isnt that cool how they dont put the engine tin in! It looks like the motor is hanging in air. I wish you could do that on a street car.

Did the old RSRs have 2.8s or just look like them?

These had 3.0L engines - the owner said about 300hp.

I seem to recall an earlier thread that indicated the engine tin is critical to proper cooling by controlling the flow of hot vs. cool air. Maybe it only plays a roll in street cars that have to contend with sitting at stoplights and in traffic...?

Buck I believe that is exactly right. It also keeps crud and rain from getting up in there, not such a big deal on a race car.

Those cars are Awsome. My favorite IROC's. I Think John James Racing built them. The green one was for sale at the Brian Redman vintage race this year at Road America.

Thanks, They are even better when enhanced with a photo program. The rear wheel was my desktop wallpaper for a while. Checkout my link for more.

Thanks Mike, I am going wheel to wheel with it next year, plus winter is comming and .... you know, need something to do on it. Going 3.7 so the wide body work would suit it......

Cheers

Ok a Few more. I am really torn between the RSR's the 934.5 and the 935's. I love them all.

Interesting on the engine tin, it would seem like even on a race car, you'd want it in place, both to keep the engine cooler, but also to keep the intake air cooler. Even at speeds, it would seem like it would have to help (it would force all incoming air to come from through the engine lid, instead of letting at least some come up from the hot exhaust and 140+ degree track surfaces).

This one seems to have it in place. What did the factory 911 race cars do?
