Did I get Dissed?

According to the Urban Dictionary, the definition of "Dissed":

1. dissing someone is showing disrespect to them

2. being dissed is the act of being disconnected, by voice or by modem, from another party

Yo, back off. Don't dis' my peeps.

"dis"missed impolitely

You just got dissed!

3. The act of putting someone down with words.

Back off yah cracker!

Yo, she just dissed you out!

Anyway, I was driving in to work this morning when I see a Porsche coming up behind me at a decent rate of speed. I'm driving about 65 mph in my 993 and he is driving about 75 mph. I’ve driven up on other Porsches in the same manner many times, just to give a wave and say "hey". Well, I see this guy driving up on me; as he comes up along side my Porsche, I give him a friendly Porsche wave in anticipation of his wave. To my disappointment, I didn't get a wave…I didn't get a nod…I didn't get a smile…I didn't even get an acknowledgement. What did I get? I got a black 996 Turbo drive by me like I was driving a Yugo!

Did I get Dissed?

Nah. He probably had other things on his mind (for one) and he may also not be a true "enthusiast" of the marque. It's no biggie, anyway. The same thing happens out here all the time in the land of Porsches (California). They're so thick out here that you eventually get tired of waving/flashing etc.

That is some funny stuff.

I honked at a Boxter on my way to work and I got a nice nod.

I always try to acknowledge other P cars when I see them ... but I get dissed all the time. Maybe they think I am driving an old VW?

I think if you wave at someone they should wave back.. but hey , that's his shortcoming doesn't have to be yours. As kid driving with my father in his 911S Porsche owners would always flash the lights at one another . But it is true, the cars are not exclusive like they once used to be... they are everywhere

They're too old now to be leased, afaik (and actually, they are getting really affordable these days - like to the tune of $45,000 for a nice 30,000 mile car).

I too have received strange looks from time to time when waving at newer models. I don't think some of those folks really love the badge, they just think it's another car. It happens when I'm on the Harley too.

As long as most folks wave back, I'll keep smiling...

Most don't wave at me no matter which of the three Porsches I may be driving (old, newer, and new). Some give me a confused look (like the girl in the 997 Cab who lives up my street. I flashed her as I went by and she just gave me this confused look like "what? Are my lights on?).

I've dissed you many times, Scott.

As you know, there are two classes of Porsche drivers. Those who drive Porsches because of how they look, and those who drive them because of how they drive. To some, Porsches are a kind of jewelry. To others, they are engineering marvels.

You my friend.....fall into the second class. You don't drive Porsches because it is chic. You drive them for the right reasons. Generally speaking, real Porsche fans wave at each other. You waved to him. Generally speaking, they don't wave to anybody.

No, it was a 996 Turbo.

I don't even try to wave at Cayennes. I think a wave would just scare a bunch of soccer moms.

I know there are enthusiasts and well....others. I just thought it was a good Friday story.

I get waves from Cayennes every once in a while... it's so unexpected that it really throws me off. I wonder if they think I'm dissing them?

I like the waves/nods from the non-Porsches (at stoplights, etc),...even trolling along a slow interstate,...sure (probably), they don't understand sweat and blood involved, other things P-related,..but they do know when they see a good-lookin' car, eh?

Best,

Doyle
