Headlight Dimmer/Turn Signal Switch

Guys,
Seems my headlight dimmer switch is on the Fritz, I tried it a few days ago and some smoke poured out the housing so immediately turned it off. Seems I need to replace entire switch and lever, can anyone who has done this tell me if P/N 911-613-305-01-M78 is correct for an 82 SC? Thx

Davy

yes, that is the correct part. You might also want to consider installing headlight relays. The reason those switches fail is that the full current from the headlights is going through it. W/ a relay only the small control current is going through.

Daviboy,

If yours if fried, I've got a used one available out of an '84 Carrera.
I bought a new one before learning how to fix my old one on this forum.

A good used stalk at the right price would be welcomed in lieu of a pricey new one ($135.00)
+1 on installing a relay kit to save future immenent replacements.
I purchased a relay kit provide on this forum by Marcus Sucro. Do a search on "Sucro relay" and you should find what you need at a very reasonable price of $25 for the kit. The installation instructions are flawless.
HTH,

Joe,
Thanks for the offer but I really want to go for a new part, it is already in my $960 project list along with the relay.

Too bad this only works on UK cars...

'cause you need to get that smoke back in!

Sorry, been looking for an excuse to use that pic.
