RennShift Shift Adjustment Help?

Hi Folks, I have an 83 sc (915) that I just installed new shift bushings for and a new RennShift shifter. I really had no shift problems to begin with, I just wanted crisper shifting and I had some extra time on my hands. I have read all of the technical articles as well as multiple different threads on the subject, but for some reason just can't seem to get it right.
By adjusting the coupler while it is loose and then tightening, I can either get it pretty good for gears 1-4, but no reverse (and assuming no 5th), or I can get 3, 4, and reverse (and assuming 5th), but then no 1st and 2nd.
I have been messing with this for a few hours now and can never get all gears at one time.
Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks ahead of time,
Christian

Anyone? I have tried just about every variation of shift coupler alignment now but cannot get all gears at a time.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Christian,

I had the same problem in my '85. I followed the simple instructions provided in the tech article provided by Wayne in his book and on this web site. Couldn't get the sweet spot. Turns out that I was short cutting the part where I was instructed to put the shift lever at a 90 degree angle from the floor. I didn't want to pull the whole shift boot off with the console and was guesstimating the straight up and down point. As soon as I did that it all fell into place and I nailed it on the first try. It shifts like budder now.
Hope this helps. if not try the search function and you'll find a million comments on this.

Good luck,

Scott

Thank you 4flyboy for the response. I actually still have the shift boot up, since I just installed the shifter. In fact, I still have the entire consul still apart, along with carpeting, etc. I have read half of the posts on pelican looking for something that might help.
I'll give it a shot again sometime this weekend, with a clear head, and see if I have better luck.
Thank you again,
Christian
