Top Dead Center sensor

Where does this thing go and what does it "read"? The part diagram is not that clear.

As far as I know on a 3.2, the TDC sensor is only used for diagnostic testing, not an engine running requirement, other engines may vary.

+1. That is a bracket for the TDC sensor that is only used for diagnostic purposes. The sensor fits in the bracket and then a wire leads to the back of the engine where the plug for the sensor is capped off with a little yellow cap. It is bolted up near the idle stabilizer valve.

Does anyone know what the 3 pins in this plug are for?

I assume gnd, signal from TDC diag sensor, but what's the 3rd?

I actually have to use this TDC sensor for some timing calculations I'm making for another crazy project.

Thanks.

So the 3 pins all are basically used for the TDC Diag Sensor only? Meaning the wire harness ONLY goes between the Diag sensor and the connector with the 3 pins?

So the sensor has 2 outputs ('+' & '-') and a shield?

Sorry for the dumb questions but it's a pain to trace in the engine bay.

Thanks.
