![]() ![]() Ok, I left a certain person to install my rear Targa window but guess what... they "forgot" to insert the trim !!!! I spent a short while trying to insert it but i dont think its possible, it gets bent quite alot, Now he is telling me that to get a sample of the Volkswagon Beelte trim, (i remember my beetle the trim was a plastic) He thinks that it might sit in there just right and also i can use the tool to install it, Anybody been in the same boat ??? |

Window has to come back out to install the trim. Thats why mine is still not installed. You could just get some black plastic or rubber cord and stuff it in the slot.

If its black and the car isn't stock why worry about putting it in? Leave it out.

I got my chrome trim in on my 74 targa without taking the window out. Just spray some silicone or soapy subtance like car wash soap into the grooves. Its a good idea to message the subtance into the grooves with a Craftsmen Bottle opener. Thats Sears item #00941626000 for $7.99. Thas one tool you'll be able to use later on a regular basis. Just wedge it in their and slide it through...Then take the trim and press it in with some force gradually working your way down the trim making sure not to scratch your car or damage the trim. New trim works easier... Its a little tricky but once you get going you'll figure it out... Start nearest the door and work your way to the center rear window.

Its thin enough to message the lubricant into the rubber grooves, once slipped into the groove move it back and forth to get the liquid lubricant in there. I like the tool because it has rounded edges and wont dig into the rubber. You can also sort of stretch the rubber by giving it a slight twist.

When I had the rear Targa window installed on my '72 after a repaint, my installer prefers to go ahead and get it in and then put the trim in. He used a spray "dry" silicone and was able to work it in without any bends or warps. looks perfect. He has done a lot of Targas and said that trying to wrestle the window, rubber moulding and trim all at the same time is really tough.
