911 part in my driveway?

Found this in the driveway this morning. Looks like it could be from the Carrera? It's black plastic, has a rusted-off metal pin in the middle, undercoating on the outside, dirt on the inside. Anyone recognize?

Looks to me like your car ate a Mini Cooper and that's what is left after it digested. Sorry don't know.

I think it came from in between your rear bumper shock and rear bumper.

When I took my bumper off to remove my engine, those things fell out.

Just looked - don't see any indication of that. It looks like it may be some kind of electrical cover? It has two dome shapes, with a lower divider part where the metal pin is.

Dave,

That is a cover for the door post - door striker. It goes in the wheel well, behind the door striker, to protect the striker backing plate and nuts from rusting.

How can I be so sure? I have one of those on the driver's side of my Carrera, and the one on the passenger side is missing. Now I have rust where I really don't need it.

Ah, ok. Looks exactly like the piece that fell out of my bumper (top pic anyhow).

You're right Souk! Good eye - thanks. It's off the driver's side, and it ain't pretty under there, looks like it's been collecting crud for decades. Damn - another thing that needs attention.

You mentioned on the Ruf thread you might be down this way? Let me know when - I'm out of town multiple times until the end of the year, but maybe we could hook up.

Thanks!

With the cover just falling off, your door plate shouldn't be too bad. It was a good idea by the factory, until it fell off or was hanging there and the area got cruddied up....w/o owners knowing about it. I always run a generous stream of water through the wheel wells when I wash my cars, but sometimes hoses and ancillary equipment prevent a good cleaning w/o taking the wheel off or getting the car on jackstands. Oh well....rust is the new fad. Just like frayed and holey jeans...rust and rust through is now very chic!

I may be down that way next week or the following week. It depends on how quickly I can put a project together for construction. I'll ping ya.
