I've got a '81 DeLorean with a Porsche 915 tranny out of a '72 911:
![]() Unfortuately the shift knob is cracking pretty bad: ![]() I was wondering if there is another shift knob that will fit on it that would work? I've searched for another shift knob just like the one above, but I really wouldn't like to get another one just like it because it would probably do the same thing and, the ones I've found, for some reason are over $100??!? I guess these are rare or something?? ![]() ![]() Somethin like that but with the right diagram ![]() Also, I don't know why, but the end of the shaft that the shift knob sits on has no threads at all. I MUST be missing a part but what I don't know: ![]() That doesn't bother me too much because as you can see, I've put some tape on the shifter base and it does the job perfectly....but still....I'd like to have it right if possible. Thanks for any help ![]() |

Your not missing any parts, there are no threads on the end of the shifter.

The OEM 915 Shift Knob has a crush sleeve that slips over the end of the shifter then you press the knob on to it. Before you press all the way down you should position it the way you want then make a final press, if too tight use a roll of electric tape then a malet but do not use too much force.
A generic Momo shift knob will fit. I had one from the P/O then I found a OEM knob and crush sleeve from a P-car dismantler.

A Delorean w/ a Porsche transmission? Is that normal? Guess I thought they would use something GM based.
If it's not normal, do you have a p-car motor in there too?

![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks to everyone for the info! Does anyone know if someone makes custom shifters for these transmissions? (somethin similar to the pic above?) I'd just like something that looks a little more modern for the shifter ![]() |

you could also send that shift knob out for restoration... search "knob restoration" Erik Flesburg is the man you need to see.
