zzzzzzzzz sound when air flow sensor plate is lifted?

Gang,
Car is an '83SC (yes - the beautiful Glacier Blue!)
Was running fine then suddenly died. Now turns over but no start.
Bosch CD box is buzzing OK with key on.
Checking fuel system then...fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse checks out.
With ignition on and lifting airflow sensor I hear a zzzzzz sound coming from an area imediately to the left of the airbox (not the fuel pump).
I also changed the fuel filter and some nasty brown gas-like stuff drained out. The car had been sitting for a couple years but last week I did drain the tank and replace with fresh. Also fuel didn't come out when I cranked her with the fuel filter out.
Tomorrow I jack her up and check the fuel pump.
I'm wondering what the zzzzzz sound is - and is that normal ?
Thanks for any thoughts!

FYI, the frequency valve will buzz/vibrate when the plate is lifted, it is up a bit on the left side of the air box (toward the front of the car).

Hi Jay, Thanks for the help. Very possible this is what I heard. I'm jacking it up tomorrow and will know for once and for all if the fuel pump runs or not but so far that's what everything points to.

I'll post the results tomorrow after I determine the problem.

Thanks again!

Hot start or when cold? Hot start is usually a fuel pressure bleed off associated with a chack valave in the neck of the fuel pump....BTDT.
