SC Hub Removal

I'm having trouble finding the right thread due to the four-letter minimum on the search..."hub" shows no results and "hub removal" shows thousands of threads. Would appreciate some help as the manuals are quite vague with help like "drive out the hub using tool P297 or equivalent" and the Technical Article section only covers 930s.

Vehicle in question is a 1983 SC. I am installing Carrera axles from Patrick to accomodate a G50. The car has 68K miles and no play in the hubs but no service records so not sure how old the bearings are. In any case I have a spare set and this is a track car so my thinking is to replace them while everything is all apart...

Best I can tell from the threads I have seen and from the manuals and drawings is the hub needs to be beaten out with a matching-diameter pipe and BFH from the inside (transmission side) after brake rotor and ebrake removal. Is that right?

And as an afterthought am I just asking for trouble by performing preventative maintenance in bearing replacement?

Thanks all for your help

This is the thread you want. Shows a home made tool for the bearing removal.

I did not have any luck with the prybars mentioned in the wheel bearing thread so I bought a slide hammer hub remover. Worked like a charm.

You will most likely pull the bearings apart when you remove the hub so have spares ready.

1+ on the slide hammer. It is an inexpensive tool and worked like a charm.

Thanks guys...
Kurt, I am referring to the steb before removing the bearings...I dont have the internally splined hub out yet and want to verify from which direction to wail on it.

I have one of those slide hammers somewhere...

John,

JMHO, so take it with a grain of salt while you consider the source,...

Don't beat on anything.

Use a press or the correct puller to extract the stub axle.

Do it right without damaging things.

My two cents,
